they wont have anything to put the drugs in anymore!

oh god. theyll just hand off drugs without containers- this is a health risk. harm reduction anyone?
 
At the risk of coming under extreme fire, I can kinda see where the alderman is coming from.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a staunch decrim./legalization advocate, but I think it's important to try and understand the opposition's view. It doesn't seem that there is any malicious intent here; we're just talking about an extremely misguided group of individuals who are perpetuating dangerous myths and doing nothing to halt the spread of government oversight.

Despite that though, I think this guy honestly believes that this measure may somehow help curb drug use/abuse on the streets of Chicago. That WOULD be a good thing, and I don't think anyone can make a good argument otherwise.

With that said, now I can throw my hat in the ring and say that this is a completely retarded idea and how the hell is this going to do anything other than pack the prisons with nonviolent, minority drug offenders?
 
Because of this I'm gonna give up drugs. If i can't get em in little plastic baggies then i don't want them at all.

I make jewelry, and usually have a bunch of little baggies with beads, sometimes empty...this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Plus, wouldn't people just find something else to put their drugs in? Wtf.
 
Hey, blue dolphin.. superman.. batman...didnt all those start as stamps for E? cuz yeah ive gotten batman baggies before... but i think they started putting pics on baggies after the ecstasy branding thing.

I'm hustling my dank bud, selling 1g dimes, and then this law comes along and TOTALLY DISCOURAGES ME. THERE IS NO WAY I AM GONNA USE ANY OTHER KIND OF PLASTIC CONTAINER. I just cant go on anymore.
 
It could be argued in court 'these aren't self-sealing bags, they require human intervention to seal them by applying pressure along the seal line, thus do not seal themselves, ergo are just ordinary baggies, not self sealing ones'

Pedantic and obnoxious, but less so than the 'law' in the first place=D
 
I always wanted to market those little plastic baggies as 'dimebags' - only always show them being used to hold actual $.10 coins. Not sure that would prevent prosecution under this rediculousness though.
 
How quintessentially American... don't fight against the destructive social forces that prompt addiction, the genuine crime it may be affiliated with (human trafficking, etc), or help the plight of those in need... instead ban micro-baggies. The only thing this could be expected to do is a put a crimp in some plastic manufacturer in Outer Mongolia who supplies or assembles the raw materials. Truly gifted incompetence...
 
Banning humans would be far more effective at reducing illicit drugs IMO,
In fact I suspect it would totally eliminate demand.

From what know of this alderman and his ward, he's a new guy that wishes to flex his political muscle in a neighborhood with a weak political history. His ward has sharp social class divisions and the growing majority of rich residents want a sort of suburb next to the downtown, despite what the reality of the area is.

This is ridiculous. I'm stocking up next time I'm at the dollar store...
