At the risk of coming under extreme fire, I can kinda see where the alderman is coming from.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a staunch decrim./legalization advocate, but I think it's important to try and understand the opposition's view. It doesn't seem that there is any malicious intent here; we're just talking about an extremely misguided group of individuals who are perpetuating dangerous myths and doing nothing to halt the spread of government oversight.
Despite that though, I think this guy honestly believes that this measure may somehow help curb drug use/abuse on the streets of Chicago. That WOULD be a good thing, and I don't think anyone can make a good argument otherwise.
With that said, now I can throw my hat in the ring and say that this is a completely retarded idea and how the hell is this going to do anything other than pack the prisons with nonviolent, minority drug offenders?
