I haven't bought OTC Codeine products in a very long time. I've noticed they no longer have the 50 tablet jar. They now contain 9.6mg of Codeine instead of 10mg & the tablets are yellow instead of white!

Are these tablets SAFE to do a CWE on?

I don't really like the thought of drinking yellow water & not sure if the yellow dye is of any health concerns.

Do they still have the old white tablets or have they been replaced by the yellow ones?

Yes they are safe. No they haven't replaced the tablets, those are the tabsules. Some pharmacies carry those instead of tablets, some carry both types.

They are a bitch to CWE though, they go all sludgy.

Also search for the Nurofen Plus laws change thread for a summary of the changes in the law.

Thx Mr Blonde
I notice the APAP isn't falling to the bottom.
I won't be buying these again. So after I put it through the coffee filters I suppose it'll still be yellow & I wont be able to tell if I've done a good job by how clear the water is?

Ususally with panadeine forte it comes out as clear as water. & APAP seperates straight away. This is BS

It'll clog my filters up cuz I usually only use the water above the layer. Guess I'll put in a hankey & squeeze out most of the apap first before putting through coffee filter.
But just cheaking that it's safe that when I've finished the process it's safe to drink a yellow solution.

Are you sure the dye from 40 tabsules is fine Mr Blonde?

Does anyone even know what the dye is?

When I got the tabsules I ended up chucking them out instead of risking it after I got nothing but yellow crud...

It's probably not all that bad, but the dye from 40 could have some health ramifications and in the interest of HR it would be good to find out more on this

^not too sure on this type of dye in particular but theres been some discussion about the orange dye in the suboxone tablets and IV complications as even micronfiltering still doesn't get rid of the colour. nothing conclusive i've read about any problems.

yeah these tabsules are a bitch to CWE. most of the chemists prefer to stock them around here...and i'm starting to get impatient with this extraction. it's taken the first 3 songs of Isis - Absence of Truth to play and for these to dissolve:|

i've never encountered any sludgy types nor yellow tabsules apart from the mersyndol brand and another travalcalm tablet which has doxylamine succinate included.

PsiloSubNaut, Don't make me paranoid. I'm about to drink a cup of the yellow water in about 15 mins. Can someone confirm that they have drank this yellow dye alot of times without a strange taste or further side effects on top of codeine itself? (It should have to dye from 40 pills or whatever fraction of water I get out compared to what I first used)

Pretty confident apap won't be in there because of it's proven solubility in cold water. just worried about binders & dye.

I Originally used 150mL of Water I'll let yas know how many mL I end up with after extraction

I am trying to help you by asking the questions that matter.

I don't know what this dye is and although it is most likely safe, large amounts could have side effects, just like 40 doses of a drug is dangerous, 40 doses of this dye could also be dangerous.

Best be safe than sorry

You can always get high another time

OK PsiloSubNaut I'm unsure weather to drink the solution after I've finished now.
Hope someone reading can help answer if they've experienced any problems with these yellow tabsules.

I've done a cwe with the yellow ones before and I didn't die/nothing bad happened. That's just my personal experience, doesn't mean they're safe. I can't imagine they're dangerous though.

just used a hanky to get rid of what looked like atleast 90% of the apap into a bowl.
I'll tip it through the filters see how many it takes & see how much water im left with compared to the amost I started with. Oh well if leftwing is still alive I guess I'll probably survive it aswell...

if there's a mims page on that formulation it's going to tell you what kind of dye is in it. googling shouldn't be too hard either.

Oh well if leftwing is still alive I guess I'll probably survive it aswell...

what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger, right?;) the odd cwe is the least of my worries health wise. as apathetic as that sounds, i don't mean it in that way. i just mean i barely ever touch cwe codeine now, normally have access to the pure 30mg tablets.

Did a bit of research

The following inactive ingredients are found in Chemists' Own Pain Tabsules:

Lactose (Suger found in milk 2-8%, safe)

Sodium starch glycollate (2-8% in tablets but Practically insoluble in water)
Magnesium stearate (In normal pills anyway)
Quinoline yellow (104) ci47005 (Food colourings, safe)
Sunset yellow (110) ci15985. (food colourings, safe LD50 6-10grams in mice)

Chemists' Own Pain Tabsules does contain lactose, but does not sucrose, gluten, tartrazine or any other azo dyes.

Got about 110mL out. Would usually get around 130mL if using 150mL of water. Not using these again. But seem safe to use. taste was weaker than usual.

All that research gave me something to do during the filtering wait, now going to go & chill ;)

I've CWE'd them many times with no drama.

They are a bit of a pain because they take longer to dissolve, but they work

Yes to both questions. Thats just the dye which is pretty much harmless. They still have the white ones which come in a bottle which contains 40 thats if ur referring to CO tablets. By the way CO tablets are the quickest dissolving pill there is.

Sorry I didn't mention specifically that I've consumed these in doses of I think two 40 packs at once with other CWE materials as well, and been fine. The yellow dye is safe as you discovered through your research. :)

The yellow ones will be fine.

Think about it - anything that's in those tablets (including colouring) will be fine to eat. I don't think it's in the pharmaceutical company's best interests to include a toxic dye in something that's designed to be eaten!
