Chemical messiahs different to mere "drugs"?

I never got much out of meditation tho Larch. I'm not entirely convinced it works. Certainly doesn't for me. I know the theory is always "Well you have to do it for 50 years before it works" but I tend to think that's what everyone says when they're pushing something that doesn't work.

Psychedelics work - that's the difference for me.

We've been through this before, but it definitely can work, and in less than 50 years, though slower than acid. You've said before you've never had an ego death on high dose psychedelics, so maybe achieving similar states with meditation would be just as difficult for you. It isn't as difficult for some people (not me i hasten to add - i'm too lazy to do nothing ;))

Swirlys rule; swirly visual psychedelics are superior to any and all drugs ;)

Preach on brother :)

I suppose the problem is that you have to take someone elses word for it. And someone who'se invested so much time into something usually don't like admitting "It's a load of old cobblers". So they'll go "Yeah, just keep doing it for another year...". Fuck that :)

I thought quite a few people had mentioned meditation/yoga/attachment tho?

Attachment, which I mentioned, and yoga and meditation, which others mentioned, are not exclusively Buddhist concepts are they? Whereas even your supposedly jokey reference to messiahs is definitely an exclusive reference to religion. Ergo (geddit) you are the one slipping in direct religious references, compounded by you adding "I'm certainly a religious devotee of LSD and mushrooms".

Language matters. ;)

psychedelics are my favourite. I have often taken them for fun, as well as spiritual reasons.

A lot of other drugs are very escapist but pysc's arent.

done my fair share of acid, shrooms, mescaline but after a break of 20 years or so DMT is my doc when it comes to altered states i love the stuff its just instant mind bending deliciousness - and v easy to get from many plants

Attachment, which I mentioned

Not exclusively I suppose but it tends to be buddhists who talk about "attachment" isn't it. I don't believe in attachment or the ego in any context anyway. I don't think you lose your ego on swirlys, I think you're the same person you always were just high on a psychedelic drug.

Whereas even your supposedly jokey reference to messiahs

My other line was going to be "LSD - Peace be upon him" :)

Is that smoking it blondin? Must admit - I prefer my drug experiences to last a few hours rather than a few seconds. Oral DMT is a fave of mine if I'm in the mood for putting up with the nausea.

I'm not using it as a 'belief'. It's an intellectual explanation.

LOL at peace be upon him. :)

I do have a bit of a stick up my bottom about the ego explanation tho shm - I've always felt that you could talk to me while I was on 500 mics and I'd be exactly the same person I was sober - just laughing a lot more :) I think the idea that "lose your ego" adds a drama and a fear to it that isn't really justified. Perhaps thats just how I feel on it, to me it's pure joy, there's none of this "I felt like I was dead" horseshit.

I know, I know and its why I was careful with my wording earlier in this post

inherently relies on largely, but not wholly, ripping up normal waking consciousness, i.e ego consciousness.

See emboldened bit.

For the rest, read Andrew Weil. And no, he's not a Buddhist. But he has a brilliant way of explaining the psychedelic experience and its use to 'straight' life.

So let's get this straight. You don't experience any kind of ego death from high dose LSD, just a bit of a laff. You don't get a buzz off amphetamine, methamphetamine or cocaine. Are you sure you're not already dead? ;)

35mg of DMT smoked will disolve your ego - never had ego loss any other way. Yeah a goood MOAI LIKE HARMALINE will give you an aya like experience but I like the intensity and strength of a couple of lungfulls, got some to try and might have a go later today looks and smells the same as my last gift so should be fun.
500mics and just a few extra laughs? fuck me that would have me halucinating my arse off and be very confused as to the where, why, what who etc.

I wasn't using it in the abrahamic sense - more as a humourous reference to the molecule as your friend/liberator.

I'm certainly a religious devotee of LSD and mushrooms.

Not every alternative to hackneyed Eastern hogwash has to be Abrahamic. What are Abrahamic religions but Eastern hogwash anyhow?

Unfortunately, the majority of Westerners are incapable of connecting to their own, atavistic, ancestral mysticism. So we'd rather outsource.

don't make sense - how can you compare Abrahamic religions to eastern ideologies? different belief system entirely with the most obvious one being 'you must live your life like this' to 'you could live your life like this' (squashing 1000's of years of theological rhetoric in to a sentance...)

Nope - no ego death. It's magical but I always know I'm Mr Ismene and that a few hours ago I snaffled 500 mics :)

Actually I'm not so keen on the mental effects of acid - if you split the dose in two and take it 20 mins apart it's like a completely different drug. Much more like ecstasy with knobs on. It's a wormhole that takes you to an entirely different side of LSD that not many people are aware of.

That's with a tolerance tho blondin - taking it every week for 5 or 6 weeks. Usually 200mics is enough for me. Nice to meet a DMT fan - orally I thought it was breathtaking.

I'd be interested in hogwash that I didn't have to believe someone elses word for. The moment anyone starts saying "Yeah it doesn't work the first time, you have to do it for 20 years first..but then it's fantastic!!" I tune out and go take LSD instead :)

I've just been having a mooch at some 5-meo-DMT, anyone got much experience with it??

I did have a wicked source for NN but he's shut up shop, this 5-meo looks equally as interesting..

You have to remember that for Sammy "Eastern" starts at Leeds. And finishes at Bradford.

He might also have done well to read the actual thread and realise the context I was speaking in. I never mentioned any eastern religion. But SG's always up for a bit of bashing the little brown people he's never met.
