From one chem geek to another!
I'm assuming you're talking about the chemical mechanism (arrow pushing?) right?
I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the fusing of the aromatic rings. Nothing else would account for a color change. I'm gonna go hit up the science library at my school when i get back and i'm gonna try to write a FAQ type thing for it.

That kinda makes sense, but in the marquis reagent there are no aldehydes, so i'm pretty sure that does not apply fully - but a similar reaction probably occurs. Look over here in the next few months and i'll post something nice
