Checking for codeine allergy, is 30mg enough?

I wanna try and get high off of codeine once, see what it's like, i have them prescribed but i haven't dared trying them.
Before i get high on them, i wanna know if i'm allergic, they're 30/500mg, codeine/paracetamol (acetaminophen)
Would taking one of those be enough to see if i'm allergic? i'll be with my mother when i first try them.
If i do turn out to be allergic, what symptoms should show at a dose like that?

how long approximately should i wait and see what happens? an hour or two?
and how long, again, approximately would it take for the symptoms to come on? like half an hour or 45m ish?

Wait at least an hour. Symptoms of an allergy (and the effects of the drug) will take anywhere from 15-150 minutes to kick in depending on stomach contents and other factors.

These things can vary greatly by person. I have a codeine allergy, and the more I take the worse I get. At lower doses, even up to 60mg really, I will just get really itchy. Not enough to make me think of an allergic reaction, just feels like a bad opiate itch. As I increase the dose though swelling starts in, and it's very obvious I have an allergy.

If you are worried, I'd suggest having Benadryl on hand. If you take 50mg of this at the first sign of allergic reaction it can save your life. A friend of mine carries it instead of her epi pen and finds it very effective even for her severe, potentially lethal allergies. This doesn't mean you shouldn't seek medical attention also, but the Benadryl is a good idea. You might even consider taking some anyhow prior to dosing, as it really helps with the opiate itch and can potentiate the nod. However if you do this the first time it could mask a potential allergy.

Remember that codeine makes you itchy when you get high on it, so dont freak out because of that... but you should be able to tell if its a simple itch or allergic reaction

Some people are so intensely allergic to codeine, it's unreal. Any amount has them in a anaphylactic reaction, needing to be stuck with an EpiPen while being rushed to the hospital to have a chance at surviving. It's so weird that some of these people have no problems with semi-synthetic opiates like hydrocodone, though...

eHow says "On all occasions, an allergic reaction will never happen on the first time of taking the medication". And that's what I've heard too, at least that often the allergy doesn't show up right away, it appears after you've taken it a few times. So taking codeine once is not necessarily enough to provide a reliable test for an allergy.

There are also some people are not "allergic" per se but are sensitive to it, like they might get nausea, diarrhea or constipation, ringing in the ears, weird dizzy feeling, blurry vision, stuff like that. So basically if it makes you sick even if it's not a severe allergic reaction then you probably won't want to take it again either. Some people are also sensitive to the APAP too.

Symptoms of a codeine allergy are as follows:
After taking the codeine, an allergic reaction will usually be quick (within a few minutes). It will come in the form of swelling, hives, or sweating. Some people may experience headaches, visual disturbances, disorientation, or flushing.
Serious Allergies: Difficulty breathing, dizziness, heart palpitations, shock, or cardiac arrest is rare but serious and requires medical attention.

I have a mild codeine allergy and I seem to have no problems with most other opioids weirdly.

when i take it my skin gets red all over and my skin burns and i get a fever. its sucks. i used to be able to drink the codeine syrup years ago with no problem.but it was mixed with promethazine. i used to love the syrup.but ya i can take all other opiates, but lately i stay away from codeine.

tried 30mg and it's almost been an hour now, i'm still fine, no symptoms
would taking 90mg tomorrow be safe then? see if that'll give me a nice buzz

if your doctor prescribed them then I wouldn't be too worried obviously your doctor felt it was safe to give them to you. And yes, you should have had a reaction by now if allergic. Why would you think you are allergic?

Also be aware, when you take 90mg you are going to itch due to histamine release. This doesn't mean you are allergic, do not panic. If you do you'll psychologically make your symptoms worse.

no certain reason, i just wanted to do a check since i wanted to try and get high off them some time, i'd wanna make sure before i'm not allergic and then just die or something, just like a security check

i have antihistamines prescribed for sleep, 3 different kinds so i have promethazine, hydroxyzine and alimemazine which isn't very common.
Which would work better? i think i'd go for the promethazine since it takes away nausea if i were too feel that, i have a phobia of it so yeah
and trust me, it's a real phobia, almost killed myself because of it

Yeah, I had already gotten that impression. Do you think getting high when you have this phobia is a good idea? Do you not think it will exasterbate it?

well idk, i smoke weed and i've been doing benzos, but i'm done with benzos now, i just wanna see what codeine's like
not like i'll be doing codeine all the time, just wanted to see what it's like, and i wanna go slow

i have a quick question, is it safe to smoke weed while you're on codeine? and can you puff on a cigarillo safely?
'cause i read that people have seizures after they mix tramadol in large doses and then smoke a cigarette, now i won't be inhaling the cigarillo smoke, but it's worth asking imo.
and i'm pretty sure seizures ain't a side effect of codeine, just wanna make sure it's a safe mix, security check again

tramadol and codeine are 2 very different drugs. Tramadol puts you at risk for seizures at high doses. Codeine doesnt. Neither of which have anything to do with smoking anything. Unless its more tramadol!

i know they're completely different, but i was just asking if it was risky to mix codeine with weed or tobacco, although the tobacco wouldn't be inhaled like on a cigarette
but i take it i'd be fine with puffing on a cigarillo

is it better to take codeine with food? like 'safer' or whatever you wanna call it

Codeine is relatively safe no matter what. Especially when taking only 90mg, you can eat if you want or not. Same goes for smoking. Unless you're smoking tramadol or something else stronger than weed.
