I've been trying polyphasic sleep for two months now, and I can't really get the hang of it. It seems very promising, but I just can't GET to sleep unless I'm really tired. I've never been one to nap.
I feel like my train of thought runs on this unstoppable flywheel and the only way to stop it is to let it run down of its own accord. But by that point, I've been awake much too long and so I have to sleep a regular amount.
Anybody have advice on how to get to sleep quickly, without compromising the ability to wake up again an hour or less later?

Some people I know CAN sleep when they're not that tired, though. People go to sleep under different circumstances, at different speeds, sleep more or less soundly, and for different amounts of time.
I find it very difficult to get to sleep unless I'm very tired, but once I'm asleep I'm nearly impossible to wake up. My ex-girlfriend goes to sleep at the drop of a hat and sleeps very lightly.
In the past two months, in some weeks I've had much more success with polyphasic sleep than others. When I CAN get it to work, I feel BETTER. I don't wake up groggy and with my back hurting, which is how I wake up when I sleep normally, and I seem to have more energy.
What I'm asking now is advice on how to GET to sleep, albeit temporarily, not how to stay awake.

ubermann sleep is hard.
Just keep staying awake. eventually either the naps will get easier or you'll go crazy.
