Changing Xanax for Valium in detox?

Hi all,

I was just talking to my administrator and he told he they will be doing this while I'm in detox to get me off of the Xanax. I have had issues with Valium in the not so distant past too so I'm not too sure if I'm switching one problem for another (granted it is easier to come off of Valium). Have you successfully done this while going through detox - starting suboxone in patient for 7-10 days.

Thanks for your help :)

This is the best course of action in my opinion. It is also the most widely supported in the medical community.

Good luck with everything. ;)

Thank you so much for your reply it is much appreciated :) I have GAD so will need to work out how to manage it without meds for the first time once I'm clean (everything is prescribed but of course I take way more than I should being the idiot I am). Just hoping the Valium holds over the WD in the beginning at least or my anxiety will turn into massive panic attacks :(

I'm almost 33yrs old, just out of the addiction closet and going into detox. It's what you make of it right?

valium or klonopin is almost always recommended due to the long half life you wont need to keep redosing as much like you would with xanax
not really a bad deal valium can actually help with a taper if you follow the docs instructions

Thanks heaps I really appreciate it. I'll be following them as they're handling all medication and not sure they will be sending me home with any benzodiazepines which might be a good thing :) I honestly don't know much about what will happen in there yet as I've never been to detox before. Many thanks again!

i can almost bet money you will get valium or klonopin to help detox from xanax
dont know of anything else that will actually help

Chlordiazepoxide was the primary treatment for sedative/hypnotic tapering at the detox I went to. Diazepam is definitely common though for the same purposes. Either way, the aim is to use a longer-acting substance to get off the shorter-acting substance.

Are your previous issues with diazepam in relation to unwanted effects or addiction/dependence?

Thanks everyone! Admittedly I haven't heard of the other meds mentioned, I will look them up :) my issue began with a high tolerance from the get go on Valium which quickly turned into a shitty addiction.

Oh sorry buddy. I usually include the brand name with the chemical name. You've probably figured it out by now but chlordiazepoxide (Librium) and diazepam (Valium). Using the chemical name can be a little more efficient than the brand as the latter frequently varies from country to country and region to region.
