Changing from "Nucynta" to "Nucynta ER" -- Can the coating be peeled off like OC's?

My doctor switched my prescription from regular "Nucynta 100mg" to "Nucynta 100mg Extended Release". The difference BIG.

The regular 100mg pills REALLY worked great for me. These new extended release pills are nothing compared to the regular ones.

My question is:
Is the only difference between the two just the blue coating? If I peel off the coating, will I feel the same effect as the regular release pills?

The new pills came with a warning saying not to do anything with the pills except swallow them whole. Because it could be FATAL! Are they just being very careful or is there some truth to the warning? I've peeled off the blue coating of one extended release pill but I'm is afraid to take it (because of the warning).

Anyone know more about the difference between the two pills?

i can't answer your question because i have no experience with it, but you're gonna get smacked down by a moderator for using "SWIM." we don't do that here. it provides zero legal protection and is super annoying.

also, i don't know why you'd want to do this anyway. isn't it also an SNRI? that shit's nasty.

I know that "SWIM" stuff is really annoying but I saw it used in another thread so I thought I was supposed to use it.

Anyway the reason is the (non-extended release) pills were great for me. These new extended release pills are only about 25% as effective. I'm just trying see if peeling them will give them the same effect as the non-extended release pills.

btw, I'm not using this for recreational purposes. I have bulging discs and pinched nerves in my back. This is what my doctor thinks is best for that.

gotcha. is the dose the same between the IR and this version? if so, i don't see any problem removing the coating. the only way pills are made time-release with a coating (as opposed to a wax matrix in the pill itself) is with what i believe is called an enteric coating. all this actually does is prevent the pill from opening in your stomach, and instead it breaks down in the small intestines. so the onset is slower, but i believe the effects would be the same. not sure why they're so much less effective for you. maybe you can just talk to your doc and tell him/her that this formulation isn't working as well. since you have it for legitimate reasons, i don't see why he'd have a problem switching you back.

it's the same thing. i take them too. they have to put the warning on all slow release narcotics. as far as i know they have a wax matrix too so removing the little coating around it won't do nothing, you'll have to crush or chew them up completely. i would completely crush it first, chewing gets kinda stuck in your teeth. i actually think the pain relief is better by taking the slow release pills whole but that's just me.

i know this is off topic. but i never understood why nucynta got such a bad rep on the internet. strength wise 100mg of nucynta gives me the same feeling/pain relief as like 20mg oxycodone.
