Hey,

I was just changed from 225mg of effexor and put on 5mg of cipralex and put my effexor down to 150mg and after 2 weeks will be changed to 75mg and 10mg cipralex.

I wanted to know what this is and is this not something weaker than what I am on?
I was on an SNRI and this is SSRI but I have been on at least 5 SSRIs and none worked.

Does anyone know about this?
It seems like I am changing to something that is lower than what I'm on...

I don't know where else to turn to...

No mate, every drug has its own doseage, and you can't compare the doseage of two drugs, even if they are in the same class. Escitalopram is a good AD and 10mg is the usual dose to be put on. No worry to have ;)

10mg Escitalopram ( Lexapro / Cipralex ) is a typical starting dose. You could go up to 20mg after a few weeks once it's kicked in, you could stay at 10mg, depends how you get on with it.

Escitalopram is an SSRI used for both depression and anxiety disorder. You have an anxiety issue? Maybe your Doc is thinking the Norepinephrine ( Noradrenaline ) elevation component of an SNRI med like Venlafaxine ( Effexor ) is hyping that up, so wants to try something calmer? He's obviously trying to avoid some kind of discontinuation thing the way he's phasing doses in and out.

I found Citalopram ( Celexa / Cipramil ) and Escitalopram pretty sedating, at first at least. Whatever, there's no easy comparison between Effexor and Escitalopram dose-wise. Just have to see how you go.

I have been on escitalopram (Lexapro) for over a year now, switched from citalopram (Celexa) and so far have found escitalopram a superior antidepressant than a lot of SSRI's and other antidepressants. The SSRI's I've tried were Paxil, Prozac, and Celexa. Other antidepressants I've tried were buproprion (Wellbutrin), trazodone, and venlafaxine (Effexor). Some worked (Wellbutrin) but had negative side effects, others did nothing.

I take 30 mg escitalopram 1x/day along with 10 mg Abilify 1x/day. The dose of escitalopram that I'm on is on the higher end as usually most people get between 5-20 mg. I got good antidepressant effects at 30 mg and I find it to be a great drug with very, very minimal side effects (in fact, I don't notice any negative/unwanted side effects from it). I get no sedation from it at all.

I have to also mention that I'm on Dexedrine (15 mg IR 2x/day), 130 mg/day methadone, and 1 mg Xanax 3x/day - so those might be enhancing the antidepressant effects of escitalopram, but all in all, I do recommend it.

^^Outta curiosity, did you go on trazadone for insomnia or did your doc give it to you for depression?
