Chad Ochocinco

What's the point of football being all serious macho straight-laced etc.? If I'm watching TV I'd like to be entertained and given some lulz. He's still a team player, but he's a wide receiver. They are expected to be egotistical. At least he's a goof off in the process.
we obviously have different opinions on what constitutes entertainment. you are entertained by him. i am not.

where did i say that football has to be "all serious macho straight-laced"?

why are wide receivers expected to be egotistical? why not running backs? tight ends?

for me, there are plenty of non (overtly) egotistical wide receivers who are very entertaining without overacting when they score (i.e. do what they are very well compensated to do).

I watch Bengals games I wouldn't ordinarily watch but for Sir LXXXV.

Players like him, and yes - T.O. grabbing a cheerleader's pom-poms immediately after he scores a touchdown - add spice to an otherwise brutal sport.

Viva life!

well it looks like i'm something of a lone voice here. i think he's a dick.

football is a team game and he makes everything about him. he's a professional and he acts in a most unprofessional manner. the guy in taco bell doesn't pull some lame stunt when he gets my order right. there are many players in the nfl who do a better job than 85 and don't feel the need to celebrate themselves as overtly as he does.

No high school football is a team game. College is a team game. Professionals get paid to entertain.

I think Ochoa Cinco types are good for any sport. They bring attention good or bad. That undeniably brings in money. If it didn't the "fines" would be substantial. For regular joes like us it would probably be about the same as a parking ticket. More often then not its worth the 25 bucks.

i disagree. i think by definition all high school football is a team game. but we're not talking about high school football
Professionals get paid to entertain.
professionals get paid. i agree with that. that's pretty much the definition of professional.

whether they are paid to entertain or paid to play football is an academic discussion. for many, playing football and entertaining are very much the same thing. more generally - and i know this is a false dilemma - but if you were a coach would you rather have a boring winning team or an entertaining losing team. if you choose the latter, you would not be in your job long.

football players are paid to win football games. if they are entertaining, that's a bonus. ymmv (and obviously does :) )

No. High school football is a team game. Thats what i meant anyways. LOL my fault. I definitely left something out of my post.

Anyways I see your point but, coaches don't really keep players. Owners do. Owners want butts in the seats and people spending money. Sometimes that means have an Ocho Cinco or a TO. If it didn't then why do they still play? TO has been on what 4 teams? People will always sign him because he will get people to watch even the sad ass Bills. I think its a little unrealistic for a team that has no chance in hell to win a division let alone a bowl being worried about anything but money. If I was an owner of a crappy team with no sales I'd sign an ocho cinco in a heartbeat cause he will make me money. Ymmv but, owning a team is a business.

I think Ochocinco is far more talented than T. O. was, and ever will be.

and this is coming from a very spiteful Steelers fan.

because there is a wide spectrum of different personalities in football. don't get me wrong, i think that colourful players like 85 and t.o. have some talent. but there are plenty of other talented players - even more-talented players - who don't behave like jackasses when they do their job.

the bills average home attendance has dropped since t.o. got into town. (source espn.go.com). that said, i don't want to be guilty of 'post hoc' especially given the economy

perhaps. this seems like a crazy non-sequitor. i don't see anybody saying otherwise and i have no idea where that came from.

sure. we just disagree on the way to run the business, which is fine.

Whatever dude. If you believe that these players are all about winning then more power to ya. In this day when coaches get fired for disputes with star players and you see Tom Brady wearing a hat with his name on it I fail to see this "team" you speak of. What I see as being important to the owners is money and not always how they make it.

Watching players take bigger money to play on a crappy team. Seeing kids wearing Randy Moss masks at patriots games. Seeing players speak publicly about the poor performance of a teammate. All of the above tells me everyone is in it for themselves and their bank account. I just don't think its a team sport like it was. It sure as hell isn't about winning together like it was/is in highschool.

If this means that 85 is gonna do a sombrero dance then fine. If he didn't I for one wouldn't even stop on a Bengals game for a second. The game just isn't the same as it was 20 years ago when I was 8 and IMHO an elaborate celebration is the least of the problem.

everyone? every single nfl player? either you have insight or access to which nobody else does or you are just exaggerating to make a point. i'll draw the more obvious conclusion...

so you watch football to see a guy, who gets paid millions of dollars a year, put on a funny hat and do a silly dance?

here are some other links you may enjoy:

stupid dog tricks
guy falls down
monkey on a skateboard
stupid people doing stupid things

Wow you put some effort into this one. My point was real teams don't talk shit about each other. Have you ever been on one? What kind?

I'm getting the feeling you might not like me. That's quite alright. Like I said you must really believe that the NFL is team everything. That's fine. Maybe you can hook it up with some more videos though. TIA puppet:)

i agree with you - real teams don't talk shit about each other. there are, obviously, exceptions to every rule and if you look hard enough you'll find one.

i don't not like you - i don't even know you. i do, however, disagree with your opinion which is a perfectly acceptable thing, especially on an online discussion forum.

if you can show me where i said that "the NFL is team everything" i'll be impressed as i never said it. putting words in my mouth speaks to the veracity of your argument.

the only thing that i believe regarding this topic is that chad 85 is a selfish dick. no more. no less.

He's also one of the most down-to-Earth guys in the entire league.

Why do you think he's a dick? He loves attention, yes, but that doesn't mean someone is a dick. He's seems to be pretty well liked thru the whole league...
