SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Health (MOH) has proposed that all doctors be required to enter the details of patients they prescribe benzodiazepine drugs to.

Benzodiazepines are psychoactive drug, which result in sedative, hypnotic, anti-anxiety, muscle relaxant and amnesic action when taken.

They are used for anxiety relief, insomnia and other medical conditions, and can be addictive if used inappropriately on a long-term basis.

MOH is suggesting that prescription details for all benzodiazepines available locally be recorded into a Central Drug Prescribing Registry (CDPR) system.

This will help doctors find out and monitor how much drugs a patient has been getting, and enable the identification of patients who "doctor-hop" to get more of the drug.

The move comes in the footsteps of several doctors getting fined or suspended for prescribing drugs in the benzodiazepine family inappropriately.

Not that I approve but it is more logical to keep better track of the "legal" drugs that are given out if they are going to make such a big deal about the illegal ones

I think this is a good thing. Benzodiazepines are addictive enough that if you work your dose up, the withdrawals can seriously fuck you, and they have very dangerous potential synergy with a lot of common drugs, especially alcohol. With benzos and alcohol, 2 + 2 = 22, and a lot of people don't realize it. So they drink an amount of alcohol that is perfectly fine, and take enough benzo that would also be perfectly fine, and then wham their CNS shuts down entirely.

So doctors need to be very aware of whether their patients are on benzos so that they don't prescribe them something that will cause them to die.

Where is the central registry for tobacco, another highly addictive drug that damages the body, and that most people have great difficulty quitting?
Or alcohol, which is also very addictive and may be even more damaging?

They gotta make the registries for Rx stuff first since they can get away with that no problem, give'em time for the others.

I think benzos can be one of the most dangerous drugs prescribed to people because they are SO EASY to get totally hooked and addicted to them without even realizing that its happening. Benzos are just so damn tricky especially then dumb people go and combine then with other drugs and overdose and die.
I don't agree with this shit, but its fucking Singapore, they have some of the most harsh laws in the world for drugs. shit man you can't even spit out your gum on the street without getting a ticket there. fuck that. im surprised they don't monitor advil use in singapore lol its so strict.
oh you have a gram of pot...OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!

It's Singapore their drug laws are as fucked as much as anywhere else in SE Asia. Benzos are used for everything from epilepsy to insomnia so naturally there is going to be alot of prescriptions for them. That region has the most fucked up drug laws on earth.

Stupid. I have been to this country and pharmacists just hand them over, its not got alot to do with doctors.
