Hi, I just started Celexa. First dose tomorrow and I wanted to know if oxycodone and Celexa will have a reaction or if there safe to take together. Of course I will wait a week or 2 to see how Celexa alone is for me. Thanks!

i used to be on Celexa when i was 13 (ten years ago lol im getting old) and i used to abuse percs and T3's back then and i never had any trouble between them.

IIRC, Serotonin increase from the SSRI abilities of Celexa lowers dopamine levels, as DA and 5-HT are inversely proportional. So, if you are looking for euphoria or pain killing abilities stemming from increased DA levels from the Oxy, then take them separately.

I might be totally wrong on this, btw, someone please correct me if I am.

is celexa citalopram? if so, it totally gets rid of the high of any opiates i take. i cant feel shit while i take a cialopram

There is technically an interaction that you will come across when searching sites like webmd or medscape concerning serotonin syndrome, but it is extremely rare. The two are prescribed together commonly, and 99% of doctors and pharmacists will overlook it and dispense anyway. To be on the safe side, you could wait until you are stabilized on the celexa before indulging...but IMO there isn't any real concern here.

Lol I took lexapro and celexa while addicted to oxycontin. I got mad high still and had no problems. There really isn't a worry here.

If you were addicted to OC's, you probably took enough oxy to break through the serotonin's dampening effect on Dopamine.

I'm guessing rob007 was probably taking a prescribed dosage of percocet when he said he didn't get an opioid high from the combo.

^ im on zyprexa and haloperidol and can get high on opiates. for what it's worth.

20mg Zyprexa
2mg Haloperidol (may seem small but is equal to 100mg Thorazine)
and get high off .5mg Bupe so if a half mg Buperenorphine can break through the anti psychotics which have more effect on Dopamine and Seratonin than the anti depressant in question (which by the way have already noted in an earlier post that i was scripted and got high off of percs while on it) i think it's safe to say they will still feel opiates while taking Celexa.

"citalopram exhibits linear pharmacokinetics and minimal drug interaction potential, making it a better choice for the elderly or comorbid patients."
Wikipedia : )

Shouldn't be fatal

it might have been a one time deal for me. i just remember taking 40mg celexa and sniffed an opana a little while later and i felt it being wasted.

You'll be fine. I was shooting tons of dilaudid, heroin, and oxycodone while on EScitalopram (Citaloprams nearly identical twin stereoisomer brother) and I was fine. I can't speak for your case 100%, but results would likely be very similar.

Nothing u said is right ... I guess if you believe in theories lol

Can you read that last line? And who the fuck would make a theory on something as minor as this? Do you mean a hypothesis?

That was my hypothesis, and I admitted that I might be wrong, so "someone please correct me if I am."

But no, why correct someone when you can just be a tard instead and contribute absolutely nothing to the discussion? 8)

Sounds like a hypothesis to me?

Scientifically speaking everything said has not been proven...There is nothing to correct because there is NOTHING to correct it with

We know very little of the exact mechanism with ssri's and how they work..Let alone the specifics on Neurotransmitter proportionality as well as their interaction with opiates..

Also both drugs target different receptor sites; I can tell you are a such a friendly person egomergic :)
But to the OP i can tell you from my personal experience that SSRI's have no effect on opiates and if anything it felt like maybe even augment their action...

When I first started taking celexa I did not notice any decrease in opiate euphoria. I was on 20mg, the standard starting dose for citalopram. I discontinued it and went on doxepin as part as a pain management plan after hip surgery (was told it would help with sleep and depression). Opiates then seemed to have much less euphoria. Right as it would seem I was about to peak, the high would just not be all that great. I continued taking various anti-depressants and found this reduction of euphoria to be quite significant. I would feel high, but not the warm-fuzzy awesome feeling that opiates (mainly oxycodone) use to give me. I noticed this was worst while I was on effexor. I basically got zero euphoria from opiates, and even though I have stopped taking SSRI's and other various serotonin agents (trazodone, zoloft, etc.)

I still do not get the same feelings from opiates, and I also seem to have the inability to roll (or at least receive and good effects from it). I believe that after taking high doses of anti-depressants (mainly SSRI's) does in fact cause some damage to your serotonin receptors after a long-period of usage at higher doses. I also seem to have zero emotions anymore, and I have felt this way for almost 2 years after stopping SSRI's. Then again it could just be me. Just my personal experience on the subject.
