*As for experience level, this story take place about 4 years ago when I was 18. I'm now 22 and a recovering heroin/opiate addict, an addiction that took me to hell and back, although I'm doing quite well now. Anyway, at the time I was still a fairly experienced drug user, and I just wanted to tell this story because of all the crazy shit I've done to myself over the years, the unfortunate events I'm about to recall are by far the strangest, worst, and closest to dying I've ever felt. So without further adu..

The summer of 2007 was great for me, having just graduated High School, on my way to the University of Missouri - Columbia School of Journalism, I had a beautiful girlfriend name Kylee whom I loved, and a closely knit group of friends whom I also loved. My transition through drugs was basically stereotypical of what one may hear in a D.A.R.E. class; proceding from alcohol to weed to ecstasy, acid/mushrooms, xanax, cocanie, and then around 17 I discovered I liked opiates. I would eat percocet or vicodin, and being into rap, I was always looking for 'syrup' lol. I look back on my first time trying OxyConTin being a major transition in my habit, which took place maybe 6 months prior to this incident.

At the time, I was certainly not an addict at the time, but I enjoyed getting high and it was becoming a habit. Up to this point, Kylee was generally cool with me taking pain pills every now n then, and on this very night, loaned me a few $ to purchase some Vicodin from a 'friend' I knew. I had dealt with him on many occasions and he came by with 8 1/2 pills for me. These pills didn't look like any Vicodin I had seen, and I asked him, but he sad he was certain they were, and he had just taken a couple and felt good. And I trusted him, but not blindly, so as I did with any pill, I got on my computer to look it up. I'll never forget the numbers on the pill; '20 07' scored with an indent in the middle, but everywhere I looked I couldn't find anything. I went to my usual pill I.D. site but no luck, and then googled for it, but with the numbers being 2007, and the year being 2007, I found nothing. **At this point, I should have either called poison control, or not done what I did**

So, based only on my flimsy trust of my 'guy', I ingested all 8 1/2 pills. I was hanging out with Kylee, we had ordered pizza and were eating it, when I suddenly felt very strange. It was like I coming up on a Roll really fast and really hard, like u might on Ecstasy, but harder and not in a good way. My heart raced and my pupils instantly were very dilated, making everything bright and glow sort of, and knowing that this was not at all how I should be feeling from the Vicodin, I had an overwhelming sense of fear. I became nauseated and ran to bathroom where I threw up all the pizza. My mom came down to check on me and I told her what I thought had happened, that I taken the wrong pill or something, but Kylee had to be home by 9 and I was supposed to take her. In no condition to do so, I needed my mom to. So she did so, and said that if I need to go to the hospital before she got back, to call 911, and she left. The way I felt in the during next few minutes is hard to describe or even imagine, but I'll do my best.

As I sat on my bathroom floor, everthing was still intensely bright. The hardest thing to describe is the way my skin felt, it was like it was so overcome with sensation, that it blended into almost a burning sensation, hot and cold at the same time. I sat there for a moment, trying to control my breathing, when my leg kicked the wall, all on its own. I started to have slight muscle spasms and decided it was time to call Poison Control. That phone call sounded like this,

"Poison Control.."
"Hi, I just took some pills and I'm not sure what they were, and now I feel very strange."
"What did they say on them"
"They were white, oblong, and had the #'s 20 07"
"The pills you took were 40 mg Celexa, how many did you take?"
"..8 and a half.."
"Sir, you need to go to the hospital immediately"
"Thanks"

So I hung up and dialed 911. Now laying on the kitchen floor, I waited for the paramedics to arrive, and they did at the same time as my mother. When they got there, I wasn't having nearly the level of sensation and discussed the situation with them rather coherently. (I discovered soon after that the sensations came in waves) I told them I was trying to get high off Vicodin, and was given the wrong pills, so they were like "So, it was an intentional, accidental overdose?" and I'm like, uh yeah, i guess. They had the nerve to tell me, "If you had taken 8 vicodin, you'd be feeling a lot worse right now." 8 5 mg vikes was an average dose for me at the time, and if he had known I was about to nearly die later that evening, he may have chosen his words more carefully.

At the hospital, the E.R. takes forever, so I filled out forms and sat in a chair as the sensations would come and go, but never go completely, and seemed to be getting more intense. Once I was in a hospital bed, there was no question in my mind what I needed..benzo's. The nurse was saying I had to pee for them first so they could check my toxicology and make sure it was ok to give me them, but I was so tense feeling I couldnt pee, and my symptoms were getting worse. The nurse said if I couldn't pee for them soon, they'd have to insert a catheter.. I tried and tried, but nothing. I finally called the nurse over and pleaded with her, because I knew it would loosen me up, so she did, and I went, and felt releived for the time being. At some point after they administered a shot of Ativan into my I.V., I lost consciousness. Before that, I had been watching my heart monitor, and as the waves of sensation came my heart rate went from 60-65 up to 95-100 during the sensations. I awoke to several nurses and doctors standing over me, feeling like I was going to die. Before I lost consciousness again, I saw the heart monitor, reading my pulse at127. I awoke again, nearly completely incoherent and seeing that my pulse was now at 155, and a doctor said they had to give me something to stabilize my heart rate, and I may have signed something but I don't remember. I awoke several hours later to the feling of the sensations, but at a reduced level.

The next day, they had to hold me for a psych evaluation, because everyone was convinced I was trying to hurt myself. So around 2 in the afternoon, an old chinese doctor named Dr. Wang comes in, talks to me, and decides to write me a presciption because he thinks I'm depressed. What was it for, you ask? #30 20 mg Celexa, the very drug I had JUST OD'D ON! Thank god I hadn't been trying to hurt myself, because I wouldve had my supply. The irony of that is still unfathomable to me, lol.

So, over the next few days, I got back to normal. Days went by fine, but during the first few nights, I would wake up to a very gentle version, though still uncomfortable, of the 'sensations' and usually fall back asleep eventually. Although I did fear 'What if they never go away', they did. Sadly I would go onto lose Kylee, although not related to this case, and fall deep into the grips of a heroin addiction. I am now, however, past one year clean and doing great!
I was young, arrogant, and stupid when this happened, and the obvious message would be to never take a pill if you're not absolutely sure what it is. So that's my story, i don't know if anyone has had a relatable experience, but I'd be interested to listen if you wanted to share.

Thanks, peace

Sounds like quite the scary experience, I'm glad it turned out okay in the end.

wow... was he aware of what you took? If he did, this almost seems like some kind of cruel joke.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is all too common. Someone once sold me 200mg Seroquel (quetiapine) tablets as 350mg Soma (carisoprodol). Thankfully I did a pill ID before swallowing 3-4 of those at once.

I have been taken by surprise eating untested 'ecstasy' pills though. Getting an unexpected trip on (what I suspect was) DXM when expecting an MDMA trip is very confusing and frightening. Luckily I had a lot of experience with both drugs prior to this, so I was able to ride it out okay. I can't imagine the terror I would have felt if I hadn't done dissociatives before.

People who misrepresent drugs for a quick profit are scum! It really shows a callous indifference about other people's safety and well being to do such a thing.

thanks for sharing.

great report, both your connect and that chinese doctor are a pair of total shits. just goes to show- dont ever blindly take what you are given either by doctors or dealers both are just pushers of one form or another and can do more harm than good if you simply accept their word...

Yea, that sucks..Don't fuck with shit if you're not absolutely sure what it is and how it's gonna affect you..I've had some of my own scary experiences when I was younger..One time, I thought it would be a good idea to take a few of the risperdal in my friends mom's cabinet..About an hour later the absolute worst, dysphoric feelings overcame me. I was very stiff, could hardly walk..my insides felt like they were constantly moving around and I could not sit still... extrapyramidal symptoms it's called if you wanna Wiki it. Truly awful. I did not know at the time that a simple dose of benedryl would ease those feelings, so I went to the ER and got stuck there for a few hours till they discharged me. Man, some of the shit i did when I was younger..I'm lucky I'm alive with most of my sanity intact..
PLEASE-people, be careful..I know how how it is, and I love getting high as much as you do..but BE CAREFUL.I hate seeing people get messed up or dying from stupid mistakes..when in doubt..just step back and research until you KNOW what you are taking..it's not worth your health or sanity for a few cheap thrills..If you're really fiending, and nothing is available, or you have doubts...go to the park, or put on some music and lay down, play some video games, read a book..the urge will pass..

Sounds like a bad case of serotonin syndrome. Always make sure to ID your pills before you eat them, a rookie mistake that can lead to consequences such as this.

That sucks, but your an idiot sorry. You don't just pop 8 pills unless you are 100% sure what they are. Thats like those ravers you hear a pill is bomb and down 4 at once. Then they end up in the hospital

Glad you're alive.
