Celebrity deaths that you actually gave a shit about...

I didn't celebrate them in their life, but I will celebrate them dying. Hollow shells giving back their clay to the earth. Nah.. if I didn't know them personally or through a friend then 99% of the time I will give less than a shit.

The only time I've felt sadness for a celeb was learning about the life of Nikola Tesla. He actually made a real impact on the world and died alone. The modern notion of celebrities are people we're told to worship. Personally I find that grossly offensive.. if someone is a good soul they stand out and I will praise them for their works accordingly.
 
Robin Williams?

He spent his life trying to make people happy while unable to find happiness himself.

Reading about a person who has died can upset me.. and seeing as we're told everything about celebrities and have even seen a part of them without the need of a newspaper writing an article about who they were.. I admit.. celebrity deaths can upset me.. As do deaths of persons unknown.. If they weren't a cunt, then the more details known about the person, the more upsetting the story of their death is.

This is probably more suited to Second Opinion..

I kind of liked Robin Williams. Not so much his stand up comedy but I liked his films. He was also a cycling advocate. In a city like San Fran where there are far too many cars, when somebody with celebrity status is a huge supporter of cycling, it's good for the cycling community.

A couple of years ago while I was riding my bike across the Golden Gate Bridge on my way back into the city after a 60 mile loop in Sausalito and the Marin Headlands, Robin Williams rode past me. I did a double-take as he rode by. He looked at me and nodded as if to say "yeah, i really am who you think i am.." I tried to keep up with him for a while, and I was surprised how fast he was for an old man. But I was tired and on my heavy touring bike -- that's what I told myself anyway.
 
Paul Walker since I'm a fan of the Fast and the Furious movies and the fact that I use to street race when I was younger.
 
Tesla is indeed a rather sad story.

As is that of Alan Turing...

I also found that i cared a bit about the death of Pope John Paul II, though Im not even a catholic - the guy had some skills at leading his church.

but then, what really constitutes a celebrity?
a lot of actors are celebrities, but their real life impact is quite limited. their image is disproportionate and often inaccurate to their real persona...
 
Jack Herer if he counts as a celebrity.

Frank Sinatra. Don't know why. But I remember listening to the radio late at night and hearing about it, the dj then played "My Way". It was an eerie moment.

2pac I didn't really care about when he actually died but years afterwards his death and the events surrounding it have been a major source of intrigue.

Just goes to show you how external approval isn't the key to happiness. We need to live for ourselves, and God.

What if the vet was an ass hole that only joined the army to go kill some gooks, and while there he murdered innocent children?

It pisses me off when people assume that all soldiers join the army to fight for what they believe in.. most of the time that just isn't the case.
