cats' reactions to drugs (aside from pot!)

^yea, don't get the connection either

that particular cat on LSD looks like I did when IM'ing 100mg of DPT. Convulsions and spasms, perhaps something about the abundance of serotonin receptors across the body?

Yeah I wasn't interested in chems of any sorts, I was essentially hoping someone could add a new plant that my cat my find/encounter/like in the wild, besides the 3 known/semi-known ones: pot, catnip, valerian

interesting, the same family as the kiwi fruit.. does kiwi fruit or its leaves effect cats??
just cut open a fresh kiwi fruit and zero reaction whatsoever (except a cat who now wants attention because I woke him up to test it =D )

I am struggling to make the link between being a vegan and dosing cats? since you became vegan have you found that you don't dose cats as much??

Wasn't that depiction using animals as pharmacological Guinea Pigs? I mean, it appeared to be a legitimate laboratory procedure. I'm just not a big fan of life forms being forced to suffer for reasons having nothing to do with them. Oh, but for the most part I'm vegan cause' it keeps me nice and healthy (and veggie alternatives are fucking awesome).

And I only dosed my cat when he asked fair and square, a hep little cat that hunter s cat was.

And if you insist on cuitivating datura strammonium, keep it on the highest shelf possible. I'm too lazy to find the erowid link, but I know we've all read the experience report entitled "Help! My poor kitten's been tripping all day".

A bit sad, but surpisingly an amusing read. (the kitten turns out just fine)

psilocybin? would the Cat touch God?

One of our two cats eats P. cubensis. In fact, when they pop up on our front lawn she takes a single bite from each one, which looks very odd - a lawn covered in mushrooms with teeth marks! The video we have of her tripping is hilarious.

Being vegan doesn't keep you healthy.

Are you speaking from personal experience? I'm happier and healthier than I've been in years, I suppose it could be unrelated, but either way I don't eat meat because it fucks with my G.I. tract and tastes disgusting. The diet of anyone else doesn't bother me in the least.

Wasn't this originally about cat's getting high, and how it's most likely a bad idea (aside from cannibis, natures cure-all elixer)?

This is something she repeats each year? Didn't think psychedelics reinforced behaviour in most mammals (Skinner box type of affair). I know one of our cats (now departed) really had a liking for fresh cannabis buds, but I'd have thought a full psychedelic like psilocybin would have put her off a bit (my cat seemed to relish the lazy/dreamy aspect of cannabis intoxication - and the eating, of course! =D)

Kava Kava might be interesting in kitties, especially if it enjoys other sedatives.

My dog gets 32mg of Phenobarbital twice a day. For seizures, of course. At first she didn't like getting the pills, but now she really seems to look forward to it.

That sounds like the funniest shit ever!!!!

It was, and that's my bad for side tracking it, you just said being vegan keeps you healthy which I thought to be a bit... we'll go off on a ridiculous tangent, I'm clearly a meat eater who thinks a balanced diet cannot be achieved through vegan means, but I totally agree to disagree and not go any further on that!! To each their own right?

Hmmm, kava kava! Is there an attraction you know of? I wonder if they'd seek it, I'm basically looking for things my cat would go to in nature if he found it. Kind of helping him get the things out of nature he can't go find on his own =D **I actually just started some catnip seeds!! I wonder how he'll like the plant compared to the dried herb!

Can I quickly point out that there are both extremely health and extremely unhealthy dietary practices that can fall under either vegan or omnivorous type dietary practices

one's health depends on the way they practice their diet and either mode of diet can be done in varying degrees of wellness for the individual with neither more or less healthful intrinsically

I don't think cats of any sort seek out altered states with any regularity. It simply isn't a good idea when you have to hunt to survive.

That said, Kava Kava is an herbal she'd likely enjoy.

I think we're gonna end the vegan health issue, it's so off topic so let's just drop it k?

That's untrue. Cats will regularly seek out catnip and valerian, I know this because my cat has proven this to me.

About kava kava, here's the thing. If I know my cat will come to the kava kava, that's all good. He knows what's okay for him based on instinct. I'm not trying to put pills in his food, or force feed him herbs I think he may like. I'm only concerned with finding herbs/natural products (aside from pot, valerian, and catnip) that, if my cat came across it in the wild, he'd be interested in approaching.

I'm interested in kava kava, but unless I get confirmation that cats will seek it out, it's not worth sourcing the stuff <kava kava is tougher to find in the US now>

The only reason you know your cat will seek out catnip is because you've given it to the cat. Because it's something that's active by scent, you don't have to feed it to your cat.

The idea that your cat is going to know if it's okay to eat something by instinct is ridiculous. Do you really believe that? I suppose all those cats (not to mention all the other pets) dying every year because they ate something they shouldn't have were actually suicidal?

I bet my dog had a bad case of motion sickness when she decided to eat some Datura, right? Or an infection when she ate a tube of neosporin? Maybe she was hooked on opioids when she decided to try eating my Suboxone, tired when she tried eating my Lunesta, and in pain when she tried eating my Tramadol?

Holy christ, I never realized how many times my dog tried eating my drugs before. Maybe she is suicidal?

Her instincts must be faulty, huh?

And Kava Kava is really, really easy to get in the US. Not in supermarkets, but you can get it out of Hawaii really easily. It's grown there heavily. If I wasn't allergic, I'd use it tons. As it is, I vomit blood and my BP spikes (160/110) and I ended up in the ER. Oddly enough, my bodily pH was also found to be too acidic for some reason.

Point taken! I should've been more specific, I know dogs will seek chocolate but it's not good for them, I see what you mean with the datura example. However, as far as pills and stuff, those are all synthetic and could attract for whatever reason even though they're not food/natural, kinda like kids to lead paint flakes!

And kava kava is not that easy to find man. Not only is it not in supermarkets, I also know the biggest US vitamin retailer (the one in virtually every mall) discont'd it over 5 years ago.

Well, as long as you have access to a CC, you can order it online without a problem.

I would never have touched the supermarket or vitamin chain stuff, though.

Look around online, try to get it from a specialist, not one of those crappy everything stores. Conisseurs don't include stems and bark in their products, root only.

Hammilton, maybe you should invest in a cabinet or box to keep your drugs away from your dogs?
If you ever plan on breeding, I would seriously give this some consideration (esp after reading the recent flux of kids-eating-pills stories in DITM)
