BOULDER, Colo. – A Boulder woman has been arrested for allegedly killing a cat by blowing heroin smoke into its face, according to Boulder Police.

21-year-old Danielle Blankenship was arrested Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. on charges of cruelty to animals, third degree assault, and domestic violence. She is being held in the Boulder County Jail on $1,500 bond.

Police say they were responding to a domestic violence call in the 1100 block of 30th St. Tuesday morning after Blankenship’s boyfriend called police to report that she hit him in the face.

Officers say the woman admitted hitting her boyfriend with her fist because he wouldn't let her use his phone to call for a ride. An officer noticed the cat lying on the steps to the downstairs area of the home while the pair was being interviewed.

“The cat appeared to be unresponsive, and the cat did not move when the officer touched it,” wrote Officer Gregory Perry in a statement. “It could not seem to get up.”

Blankenship’s boyfriend claims she was smoking heroin and blew it in the cat’s face, an allegation the woman denies.

Bah it's not even confirmed man. Right now this is just heresay and hardly news worth reporting. Cat could have collapsed from anything, and could have got into heroin misplaced stupidly, just because this dude who is fighting with this chick claims she blew smoke into it's face dosn't make it so.

if we fight for the right to medicate ourselves under our own supervision (against what the state says, often.. for most of the population), does it follow that we're also fighting for the right to medicate the animals under our care in the way we see fit with our customs or beliefs or theories?

also, it's sort of odd to arrest someone for that. you can have your cat put down. it's not necessarily cruel... if i was a cat, i think i'd probably to enjoy it. but IME, my cat does not like marijuana. he told me so. though it's true i haven't asked him about heroin.

just by blowing one hit towards the cats face? that is a super sensitive cat...not likely

or like blowing 20 hits inside the cat's ear? that would be a little mean. but what if that cat liked it and kept coming back for more?

Claims in domestic disputes make the news now? Long ago, back in highschool me and some friends gave a cat some hits of heroin we were smoking. I'd not do such a thing now because I'd be too scared to kill the animal, but I've never, ever seen a happier animal. Ever. It sat and purred, doing nothing else, for 2 days straight. I don't see anything immoral about giving animals drugs they enjoy, but with something like heroin I'd discourage it because of the risk of killing the animal. But I've known dogs that had xanax prescribed to them, and cats that had opiate prescriptions that they were given, and in both cases the animals loved the drugs. Blowing heroin smoke at cats is pretty stupid though.

I'm sorry, but WHAT?! Maybe in your happy pastel colour world, but in the real world an untrained person randomly dishing out drugs to animals is hardly medicating, we have you know VETS to go to if your pet needs medicating.

because force feeding your healthy cat drugs till it dies - is TOTALLY like having it put down when he can't even walk without being in pain. totally. ¬_¬

a lot of bluelight doesn't trust the medical establishment and the law with our own bodies. what if some of us have different beliefs for our pets as well? (for the sake of argument)

they probably accidentally kicked or stepped on the cat while fighting with each other..

lol!!! i laughed real hard reading that. I also agree it had to be something other than "one" hit of already inhaled heroin smoke. What if the cat caught a wicked nod and hit its head on the milk dish? could be a number of things that happened

In the US people can have their pets put down even when there isn't a medical problem with the animal. Which is just paying a vet to overdose it on barbiturates. I don't think that (legally) the animal has to be suffering for the vet to put it down.

That would be one lucky cat lol
