Careers and a path you should love.

It's called "4 Hour Work Week" and the subtitle is "Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich"

I say the title is misleading because Tim Ferriss loves to do that with his titles. He wants to grab your attention, but he really does offer some solid advice that his little trickery is tolerable.

pfft that's what i'm saying. 100k IS CHUMP CHANGE.

From this statement i can tell your parents are still giving you pocket money and paying for your school.

Bro i've seen your type my entire life. I worked fir Deloitte for two years, I graduated from a top canadian business school. And your talking about connections, come on my msn son, i'll show u shit you never imagined. And mark my words when i say this, with your mentality and style you are going to amount to nothing, believe dat. watch 5 years from now you will be in for a serious surprise. dude really thinks his connections are gonna pay him 100 k lol, your connections are gonna bone you first. You don't know anything about the real world, you watch too much movies and the dope is still in your system. As for hustlin, you aint made for that shit, stick to school. Guaranteed 3 years from now your gonna hit a brick wall, believe dat. I'm a million times what you are in terms of getting through school with ease, you have no clue. And as for connections, come on msn, i roll in phantoms all day, everyone knows me in my city, and my city is no joke. i'll give u my cell number ring me up when your in town, and im an average guy financially, but i'll bring u to places you only see in the movies. Don't quote biggie, you're in the top 3 business school supposedly. Your unstable dude. Millionaire are blowing there brains out these days and your talking about how u know what's going on, you're a fucking kid

^Don't make fun of the person for asking about the CFE, at least they didn't ask a question and then try to tell us how it is.

Its gonna take some ridiculous family connections to pay some one with an undergrad in accounting and your attitude 100k after three years.

Everyone gets an undergrad degree, it doesn't mean shit.

Growing dank weed isn't that hard, don't expect your success in that area to carry over to accounting. It takes a completely different skill set and level of work ethic. 6-8k grow isn't that much work compared to a big four accounting firm.

Given your writing ability its easy to tell aren't at a top accounting school like you claim. You're not fooling anyone.

There are smart people trying to give you advice about life after you asked for it. Money isn't going to do much for you. FYI you will have a difficult time getting accounting work paying more than 30k if you get caught growing pot.

And put this on your wall and read it every time before bed.

This guy thinks he's cool quoting biggie on bluelight, dude we're all in awe at your coolness, yeah mad blunts son, yeah your really gonna bring your boys out the hood with your partners lol. Guy you know nothing about the real world, that's all im gonna leave you with. " 100k is chump change" only a guy who's mother pays for everything would say such a thing. even millionaires wont say a 100k is chump change. Your one of those guys who people can easily see through, transparent nigga i call them. This guy really thinks his people can compete with jews in accounting lol. your a kid son

No. keying in entries in accounting as you said "is glorified counting"

you look at the paper. and you type it into the corresponding box..... i've been doing clerical duties since i was 12.

Not TRUE accounting work... but basically i've become affluent to every tax preparation software and excel/access even before i started undergrad.

EDIT: no offense kong. But we have joined BL on the same year... why do you think i'm full of shit? do you think i just sit here and make up shit to the online community? No i come to bitch about REAL problems I have that I cannot address to REAL LIFE PEOPLE.

not an attack here... just wondering why you doubt every thing i say? you seem like quite the skeptic but you seem to know something about accounting..

which is why i said it was a gift. I don't care for it, and I have never cared for school... yet I will get into a top school with a top program... Thats what i consider talent.

if talent didn't exist.... why couldn't EVERYONE just go and be a professional sports player? why couldn't EVERYONE just be like einstein? Skill set only takes you to a certain point... then after that...you need something extra... that's what i believe.

And if you read what you wrote here you would realize how confused of a human being you are. I'm telling you right now, there are guys when they call u in for an interview that will break u down in 40 seconds for the kid that you are. trust me especially if my people interview you

Naw way dude. We just be hatin' on the OP's bling.

The joke will be on us when he be pushin' fat stacks and rollin' up on 28" chromes, cheesin' with his diamond grill.

Yeah, accounting baby.

You have to give the money you make on weed up on taxes, right? or the IRA will hunt you down?

I figured one of you might know. :P (I'm talking about big growers that make big money) Just curious, I'm way too lazy to grow that much weed.

See, I was actually doubting the OP's passion for making money until he wrote this.

FUCK that shit. I"m making it and taking my crew up with me. MAD blunts.

Masterfully written, friend. Mad blunts indeed.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! LOL classic!!!!! yeah, accounting baby LOL HAHAHAHAHAHAA that part killed me haahahaha lol. Now this was some real Ether!.

Nas might come looking for you Cyc, get your bars ready=D

I think this is what the OP is really trying to say but doing a korny job of saying it:

You wanna hate me then hate me; what can I do
but keep gettin money, funny I was just like you
I had to hustle hard never give up, until I made it
Now y'all sayin that's a clever nigga, nuttin to play with
Hate on me, I blew but I'm the same ol G
People warn me, when you're on top there's envy
Took my niggas out the hood, but you doubt on us
Sayin we left the hood but can't get it out of us

My bad, should I step out my shoes, give 'em to you?
Here's my cars and my house, you can live in that too
Criticize when I flow for the streets, hate my dress code
Gucci this, Fendi that, what you expect hoe?
Nickname Esco', took this game to its threshold
Best flow I bet the whole U.S. know
Try to make it like you the realest, but who the illest?
Think we all know the answer to that, cause niggas feel this right

ahhhh why not,

It's a thin line between paper and hate
friends and snakes, nine millis and thirty-eights
Hell or the pearly gates; I was destined to come
Predicted, blame God, he blew breath in my lungs
Second to none, wicked turn wives to widows
Shoot through satin pillows, the desolate one
Took a little time to claim my spot
Chairman of the board until this game stop, and I side with the Lord
Ride for the cause while drivin niggas shot at my doors
Plottin I'm sure to catch me with they glocks to my jaws
Tried, stickin me up, but I flipped on these ducks (you tried)
Instead of me, ambulances were picking them up (that's what you get)
Niggas fear what they don't understand, hate what they can't conquer
Guess it's just the fury of man
Became a monster, on top of the world, never fallin
I'm as real as they come, from day one, forever ballin
C'mon

When I first went to college, I wanted to be a music teacher. I shortly learned that it wasn't for me, and I also got into abusing drugs pretty heavily, which caused my removal for 3 years from school.

After about 4 years, I went back to school and began working on a degree that was relevant to my field of work at the time. Once I lost that job, I said 'fuck it' and decided to pursue a degree in geology. Now that I have a year left, I have been given some really amazing opportunities within the past 6 months, and I haven't thought about changing my mind since. Once I'm done with my B.A., I intend on working on a MSc in geology, as well, and I've found in the past semester that I am extremely good at techniques used in petroleum geology, which might lead to a really nice career in my future, which was totally unexpected.

i pulled 100k a year using 6kw setup when i was 17 for a while as well.

i was 17 back then. 100k isn't "chump change" sorry. but it is not enough, it allows me to live.

i would certainly love 100k to pay for law school...so sorry... if i offended anybody it was not a malicious intent.

i definently could use 100k right now i mean shit who couldn't.

as to the other posters... of course there is the money laundering aspect to it... but if u know people that own business especially in the immigrant community. it could be done with ease.

I dont' think this type of discussion is allowed in bluelight. so i will stop.

My apologize for that 100k is chump change statement.

keep in mind i'm high on alot of benzos and bud when i'm on bluelight LOL.

EDIT: maybe we in the same city life and times u want to lemme knwo your area?

my apologies for what was written earlier, i was doing hmwrk barred out and forgot the shit i wrote lol... and listening ot biggie LOL

anyway, what i'm saying is i have connections, you can believe me or not... the original intent of the thread was to see what YOU GUYS wanted to do with your lives. and how you decided upon that... and what led to your passion or whatever YOU do.... SO PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME.

i just made it htat way cuase i was on xanax and like to talk about myself on xanax SORYR JEEZ.

How did you fair with Deloitte? In what areas did you work, how many hours a week, what are your thoughts?

There is an interesting graph for signaling that shows that big four experience can actually hurt your earning potential if it is to short. The reasoning being in an "up or out" corporate structure someone that left after a year was probably not getting promoted. The graph jumps up and down along the typical promotion schedule. Two years experience helps, but much less than that can hurt you.

To the OP, I don't have anything against you, it just wasn't adding up for me. You're having this crisis about whether or not you like accounting which sounds like someone who took a couple classes and is thinking about changing their major, not someone who's been in the business since age twelve.

I'll admit I look down on rap culture, when I see someone discussing a professional subject with a bunch of slang I think Wu-Tang Investments lol...so its very possible you're a serious/professional person and I misjudged you based on the way you write.

Either way you were looking for advice which people gave. You then responded as if you didn't need it. A little humility goes a long way.

Thank god for community college. :)
I changed my major so many times it's sad. Let's see: History, Music Performance, Business, Pharmacy, then Biotechnology.
I finally landed on being a math teacher because of the life opportunity that it can get me. I can live and work literally in any town or city in America I want with a degree from NY, and I am a person of many hobbies so I don't want a corporate job that's gonna suck 50+ hours out of my week. Plus I can honestly say that I am going to be helping people and making a difference, which appeals to me. And people have always told me that I'd be a good teacher, so I'm gonna take them up on that and see for myself. Look out America another idealistic hippie teacher is coming at ya!
I picked math because I figured they are slightly more marketable than a liberal arts teacher so I would have no trouble getting a job, plus my previous major, biotechnology, already had me take lots of math classes. I already have taken more advanced math classes than I'll probably ever be teaching. Plus math is really easy for me, it's like a puzzle that makes perfect sense. I think I can convey my grasp of the subject to struggling teenagers. And I know I can relate to those problem children getting into drugs and making wrong choices because I was that person for a long time.

If I find that the salary isn't something I can live with, which I doubt, I can always go back and build off my schooling and get a more marketable degree. From what I've read it's easier certification wise to go from being a teacher to working in some industry than the other way around.
So this is by no means my final destination, but it's me getting on my own two feet just to see how I like it. I am 20 years old and finishing up one last semester at MCC then I'm getting into SUNY Geneseo for the fall.

damn, i wish i was like you. That life you describe sounds good too.... that's fucking badass u like teaching kids THIS is the type of response I was looking for

I was looking for advise... but i wanted the poster to tell me a little bit of THEMSELVES. obviously online anyone can lie, but I am interested in OTHER people generally.

The advise I was given originally was to "live and enjoy life" I was told "i was a vacauos shell of someone who will inevitably harm society" and i was told that i can only get rich by "rubbing shoulders with the rich"

You can see that as good advise if you want. I consider it HATING and missing my point entirely. as this isn't entirely about me, I wanna know aobut ohter blers to spark some conversation

Of course there has been really good advise for me and I do thank those that are encouraging me to go on my way to my dream.

EDIT: in response to my crisis situation. The reason I'm having this crisis this late into the system is becasue of this. I always thought accounting was just a thing on the side, I looked at it completely differnetly (cause school definently wasn't getitng paid). My MAIN PRIORITY was to farm... and that is /was what i did. Then I realized that I could just do that on the side and make some REAL money.... (sorry im a slow learner, but this all occured to me when i was about 18 or 19...then i decided to major in accounting cause it pays the most for the day time spent doing that work) and at night i can make the real money.

I gave you some very practical advise in my first post.

If people respond negatively to your desire to make a bunch of money its because thats not going to work out for you if its your only priority. You'll wind up hating your job and getting very little satisfaction from life. Money isn't the key to happiness or success. I may be young and *relatively* poor, but I listen to older filthy rich people when they tell me that.

Sometimes these lessons have to be learned the hard way, other times the young are blessed with momentary fits of wisdom. Its not HATING, its just advise.

That being said, more often than not, the people making "real" money are those who are really good at what they do. One of the reasons I got into accounting was the variety in jobs people with the degree could get. This means I have more chances to find something I'm really good at and enjoy. I'm going to learn how to run a business from the inside out. I'll develop a feel for the little things, intuitive knowledge of how business is run. Eventually, I'll start my own non-accounting firm and get to be involved in something I love. Not only do I have a long time to figure out what that is, the more experience I accumulate working for someone else the more likely that I will be successful when I branch out on my own.

I plan on being very successful, every well adjusted person does, but my definition of success includes a lot more than money. Even if you act completely out of selfish reasons, you'd better learn that it will take more than money to make you happy.
