Hey all, in going to be quitting opiates all together soon. Which as is, I'm looking very forward to. What I wondering is, can I do anything to reduce my tolerance? I find it has exponentially increased since I started taking it everyday. Typically 60-100mg or higher a day. I know ways of "potentiating" the opiates but never really and tricks of reducing tolerance to be able to take lower doses and stil be comfortable. I look forward to interesting responses! Thanks!

The only method I have ever heard of is simply taking a break for a while. Perhaps you should try tapering down to a much lower dose, and then try taking, say.. 20 mg more than where you are currently at in the taper? This may produce a recreational experience. For instance, taper down to 25 mg/day or something. Then, when you want to use it recreationaly, take 45 mg. I have no idea if this will work or not, but it sounds practical lol. Good luck.

As Intrinsic said tapering down is going to be the main thing, As far as reducing your tolerance that take time OFF the drug of choice. even if you tapered down over a years time most people will still have a tolerance greater than a non addicted individual.-anyone who uses any substance even water, in a technical sense is an addict not meant as a social judgement-
anyway getting off the drug of choice over a sustained period of time is the only way that i am aware of to regain the feeling you got when you went from virgin to user.Good Luck, kicking anything can be tough.just find a goal and stick to it is my advice.

DXM helps tolerance to build slower as well as helps reduce tolerance when not using. So if you potentiate with DXM on a constant basis (or all the time) your tolerance will raise more slowly than if you dont use DXM.

Once its already high though, the only way to lower it is to take a break (and not a break with suboxone or methadone, a real, lengthy break). During that break if you use DXM it will help your tolerance fall faster.

Remember though, once you pick up again your tolerance shoots back up to where it was before your break VERY RAPIDLY. So what once took weeks/months/years will now take a fraction of that time.

If you are dependent, then only take enough to keep you from getting sick most days, and then once or twice a week take enough to get high. You are better off tapering down and then stopping,, at least to break your dependence.

I have found that using 2x a week (not consecutive days though) should keep your tolerance level. Using once a week will help it go down a little, and using 3x a week and more will cause your tolerance to rise.

The main mistake that people make when taking a tolerance break is that they will go back to using just as often as they were before the break. Taking a break will only help your tolerance for the first couple of highs if you are using daily, which is why I suggest taking a break followed by only using 2x a week max. It's also good to take longer breaks than that to help lower your tolerance more if you feel it creeping back up.

Of course this is all easier said than done, but it's the only way that you can use regularly without your tolerance getting out of hand. It will be a lot easier if you taper and detox to break physical dependence if you have one.
