hey, ive got what might be common or might be a rare problem but its been bugging me a lot and i was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience.
basically ive been smoking every day for probably 2 and a half years and smoking occasionally for about 3 years before that.

up til about 6, 7 months ago i had a good tolerance and never got the effects of strong headrush and dizziness / panic that tells you youve had too much. but since then ive completely lost my tolerance. i can handle my weed fine when im on other drugs still and sometimes if weve gone to my friends house in the country where its a real good atmosphere, but something in my head seems to have just switched and made me always worry so much about getting too high that i end up getting too high.
does anyone have any advice or ideas?
thanks

Take L-Theanine before smoking. It'll chill you out, you can buy pills of it OTC at health food stores or you could just drink a cup of decaf tea which would have theanine and no caffeine. Here's more info on it- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theanine

What other drugs do you mean? Maybe make the environment you're in better. If you feel bad when home but ok at your friends house in the country then you probably should make your home more chilled out. If you feel bad play "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley, that always has helped me through bad trips, it might help with pot too.

Also smoke out of a one hitter or a small bowl so that you can smoke small amounts at a time. Then you'll be less likely to smoke a dose that might overwhelm you and lead to a bad experience.

ill check out the theanine thing, that sounds like a great idea, although doesn't it fuck up your alcohol tolerance?
urmm whenever im rushing on any kind of stim i dont get high at all off weed. ket + pot i love mixed together and never have any bad feelings other than sometimes if i feel a little rough from the ketamine.

and urm we only smoke spliffs in my group of friends really so the one hitter thing isnt likely to happen.

I have no clue, I don't drink anymore and when I did I didn't take much theanine and I usually took benzos when I drank. I don't really remember it fucking with me too bad, but my alcohol tolerance was already so high I couldn't get drunk without just feeling shitty and sick before feeling good (trying to consume upwards of 15 shots is really unpleasent).

Theanine really helped me out. I started using it after my mind was destroyed by mixing pharmahuasca with acid and shrooms and having to return to normal society shortly afterwards (I wasn't even close to ready for that). It really helped me cope, and it really does help with anxiety. You'll probably only be able to find it in 100 mg pills, which is a low dose. Start by taking 300 mg about 20 minutes before getting stoned and see if it helps to chill you out. It's a subtle substance, so you might want to take more then 300 mg, but that's a pretty good starting dose.

Are you sure you don't get high or is it just that you handle the high better? It's possible that the stims make you super functional while stoned and thus you aren't debilitated by weed. I've noticed that effect myself on stimulants, the high is much more subdued and background.

Why can't you just start smoking things other then spliffs? If you only smoke in groups I can understand not using a one hitter, but when you're on your own it could make a big difference.

i noticed that after smokin for 6-7 years every day, always good buds, and then me gettin into opiates heavy and not havin bud for awhile, (tolerance lowing im sure), when i do smoke good bud (maybe certain strains?) i will definitley feel too high and get paranoid, its only when i get the right weed that gives me a nice head buzz that i will not get paranoid, i used to be able to handle any good bud like a champ too, and i notice if i smoke after takin opiates the paranoid too high effect increases, but when i first started on opiates, i would smoke lots and not get paranoid, weird? no?

oh yeah and drinking with benzos is a very dangerous potentially lethal combo if you didnt know

I don't drink or take benzos anymore. At the time I didn't care about danger, although I do think the danger of booze and benzos is overstated. It's dangerous, but I see no reason it would be more dangerous then mixing any two different strongly GABAergic drugs. Of course, I did overdose once by taking multiple GABAergics, but the overdose wasn't terribly serious (no hospitalization or anything was required, I was never in danger of dying), but that was on Xanax, Soma and Valium.

It's a bad idea to mix alcohol and benzos, but I don't think it should be called potentially lethal (even though it technically is, but so are benzos on their own). I don't in any way recomend it though, in fact I discourage people from doing either drug on their own.

Also you probably didn't get paranoid when first starting opiates because it's kinda hard to get paranoid when on opiates, that'd make sense to me.

If you're smoking more than you usually do with friends, cut back, or just take a few hits and don't smoke the entire spliff.

When you're smoking a new type of herb or hash smoke less and see how you handle it before you decide to smoke more later.

Or if you get anxious in certain situations/environments don't smoke in them or when you know you'll be in that situation like if you get anxious being high while in public, at parties, or around total strangers.

I've been smoking up everyday for like 6 years, tolernance is never really an issue. I can never get "too high" from weed. Gaah people with their low tolerances make me jelous sometimes.

^Not me, weed is the one drug I actually feel more comfortable with the higher my tolerance is.

When I was on probation than started again after a year it was a little much, fast pulse, panick attacks.....almost psychedelic (No im not saying i hallucinated on weed but it felt almost psychedelic in a wierd way).....uncomfortable anyways.

much rather have my normal tolerance and smoke a good blunt of white widow than no tolerance at all.

OP, how old are you? I know many stoners who after smoking 30-40 years when they get to around 55, 60, all of a sudden they seem to get a reverse tolerance effect.

My personal opinion is you should tone down smoking too regularly; if you do, and just try relax as much as possible. If you can't, maybe have some beers before you smoke? That could work positively, but that could also work negatively. Try new things, obviously your not going to get good highs doing the same thing.

It happens to many of us, I smoked large amounts daily for close to 8 years before I really had to cut back. Basically, life started to interfere and I would start to worry about all the stuff I had to accomplish later in the day.

You have a couple of options

1. Smoke less, take a few hits of the spliff. Or buy a pipe. I lived in London (I am an American) so I know many do not smoke pipes. If you smoke alone the consider buying a pipe for those times and just take a few hits of the spliff when you are with your mates.

2. Stop smoking, at least for awhile. (I am currently doing this)

3. Smoke less frequently. I totally hear you on going out to your friends house. Often times I get can get really baked when I am on vacation or taking a weekend with my friends and away from my routine. It often brings back feelings of the first time.

4. Stop taking other drugs or use them less frequently. Other drugs will have an impact on you in the following days (so does herb). The negative after effects of these drugs are exacerbated by marijuana. Though I will admit, a hit or two when hungover or the day after stimulant use can help sometimes.

5. Start exercising and see how that helps. I find it makes me want to smoke less and when I do smoke I feel better because I did something healthy.

Whatever you do, you are going to have to change your routine in some way. You may have to try a few different things first. It may be easier to just quit all together. It is up to you.

Simonadbesi (that dude is fucking scary) Part of the problem may be the opiates. When I got really hooked on them I was taking in personal blunts to my dome. After I stopped the regular opiate use I was never really able to smoke the same amount. For about a year I was able to overcome that with alcohol, but that stopped working as well. Then I was hooked on both booze and weed and it took me years to get the alcohol under control and I still struggle. I wasn't drunk all day, but when 5:00 o clock hit you better believe I was going to put down a few.

Best of luck too you and remember you are not the only one. This has happened to a large majority of my friends and I. We just cannot smoke like we used too. I'd say over the past year more have quit smoking the the previous 10 years combined. Even more have cut back to once and awhile.
