Obviously you shouldn't be with them, but the problem is the man has no say over the woman's choice and if she wants to keep it what can you actually do? I've heard too many stories of woman taking advantage of this fact, and personally seen how women can flip from not even wanting a child (very adamantly) to all of a sudden finding themselves pregnant and changing their mind.

Unfortunately my own personal experiences with women, and watching/hearing about my female friends lives, have led me to become pretty cynical to be honest. Vasectomy would be an option, but I'm not prepared to take a surgical gamble just so I can prolong pleasure. I guess my 'Plan B' is just ensuring my bank balance is sufficient so that I can bail to Mexico if required

Well, in defense of women who do this sort of thing, sometimes it is difficult to know how you will feel about being pregnant until you actually ARE. And then there are the women who believe that abortion is murder and that it would be a terrible thing for them to do. I quite understand; even though I’m pro-choice (I believe this is a highly individual decision, and dependent on many factors) I’m pro-life for myself, personally. Because I’ve HAD kids, and it’s too hard for me to tell when life begins, exactly.

But the thing to do, to ensure everyone is happy and no one becomes “trapped,” is to practice safe sex until you are explicitly ready to have children together. Furthermore, it’s a good thing to discuss with your partner their views on having children and what you would want her to do if an accident happened, to ensure you are both on the same page. But I do understand that sometimes it’s not a relationship but a one night stand, in which case, wearing a condom plus pulling at the moment of orgasm should make you 100% safe. There’s usually only 3 fertile days in a cycle and about 8-24 hours when the woman is actually ovulating, so it’s MUCH harder to get pregnant than you think.

I wasn't really referring to the shotgun love type scenarios though. I'm talking about actually being in a relationship scenario, where you've been together awhile and perhaps have shifted to hormonal birth control as opposed to condoms because there's a degree of trust there. I've seen it happen (with others, not me, thank god), where that was the state of play and then boom.. out pops a child.

Yeah I get all that. I guess my concern is thinking you are on the same page, you've established that trust, and then she decides actually she's changed her mind after the fact. I'm not complaining or looking for ways to circumvent anything, just talking is all.

I was careless when I was younger, as in I never used a condom, and somehow didn't manage to get anyone pregnant or catch any STI's. All the women I was with didn't want kids or were clearly not in a position for it, but it's not something I'm going to be repeating now in my 30's when I have far more to lose.

Any woman who is going to trap you isn't worth having sex with anyway. That's why you should be careful until you get to know them well.
There really aren't that many independent, attractive women who are out looking for a sperm donor to trap into marriage! Maybe you should be more selective with whom you have unprotected sex!

Probably this just means that they made a mistake in who they married the first time around. Particularly if they’re that young! I know I did. I married right out of college, for love. We divorced partly because he’s a narcissist, partly because his mom hated me, and largely because I couldn’t get my drug addiction under control

Fortunately, I found someone new. And he’s not fazed by the fact that I have 3 kids from a previous marriage. It takes a REAL man to take on a woman with children! That being said, I made it very clear to him that if we were to get serious, he IS NOT financially responsible for my children. That’s my responsibility, and my ex’s. If he CHOOSES to spend any money on them, like Xmas gifts, that’s delightful, but unnecessary. (And he does, btw, because he’s a genuinely good guy. I’m so lucky )

I've always had this problem. I have no problem keeping it up until I start to struggle with that stupid tight piece of rubber.
