Lately, I have been more or less unable to hold down any food, for the past week or so, dry crackers and such coming back up not long after, past few days, been feeling a little better, smoked a little green today, felt much better, although vomited once, after making what was probably a mistake, being hungry and bolting down a pizza.

I am fairly regular in smoking up, well, 5-6 bowls daily, maybe give or take one or two depending on my mood at the time, other medication has been around 5x30mg dihydrocodeine per day, on and off as needed for chronic knee pain, doesn't usually make me nauseous, unless on the odd time I use it recreationally in 600mg+ doses, not often at all, have some tolerance but not much.

Also using 10-15mg nitrazepam as needed for insomnia, not benzo/opioid dependant, and using promethazine, 25-50mg 2x/day for nausea as needed the past week.

I got linked to this article from my parents, who associate my recent vomiting with cannabis use, although at least in me, pot seems to help with the nausea a great deal, and starting from the past few days, been feeling a LOT better, I attribute it to perhaps some stomach irritation/illness personally and find this article at best, bloody tenuous in any association with cannabis use, there seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes not included in the article, but would be grateful if a few of you guys could look it over for a second/third/fourth opinion, these guys were all past history of cannabis use, granted, but also having hyperemesis gravidarum, and in the vast majority of cases, preexisting gastric ulcers and undergoing treatment with proton pump inhibitors at the time.

There seems to be a connection, but in already severely ill patients, and I am not quite sure what to make of, well, something seems fishy, so to speak.

Go on guys, rip this to pieces=D

How do the history of drug use you have, coincide with the hyperemisis? I mean, the cannabis or the DHC or the nitrazepam could cause vomiting.

I mean, when was the last time you were drug free?

The hyperemesis has been over the past week or so, been taking nitrazpam for a few months, and DHC for quite a lot longer, its an ongoing condition, that should by rights, have healed long ago, but for some reason, hasn't.

Could be the Dihydrocodeine, but I don't exactly know. I know, that when I used to smoke Cannabis regularly, it would make my gastrointestinal difficulties much, more worse. Do you smoke out of a bong?
I noticed I would smoke my bong, then cough for a couple of minutes later and then sometimes vomit.
Don't know if this is going to help you though...

Usually I smoke a pipe, DHC only makes me nauseaous when I have been taking really high doses, recreationally, not for use on rx as prescribed.

a Friend was on high dose of methadone (which gave her bad nausea 4 hours after doseing) and smoking THC all night, and caffeine and ciggarettes both made her throw up ALOT, especially 4-8 hours after methadone dose.

I'm going to postulate that the DHC is the root cause of your throwing up. Strong opiates often have that affect on people. I don't know what your history with cannabis has been like, but for me and most people it definitely doesn't make eating harder... in fact, aside from daily recreational use, I use it when I'm sick or strung out from some sort of chemical and can't feel hungry, in order make myself able to eat and hold down food.

Of course, you are smoking a lot. I smoked that much for years, and found that the side effects eventually did become apparent, one of which was that I could barely eat when not high. Since graduating college, I bought a good vaporizer and I smoke once a day in the evening now, and sometimes twice when I don't work. The side effects have entirely disappeared. I highly recommend vaporizers to everyone who smokes, as it is much more efficient and during combustion of cannabis material, a very large percentage of the cannabinoids are destroyed. In a vaporizer, ideally none is destroyed at all, and no carcinogens or tars are inhaled either. many people have had experience with crappy vaporizers (like myself in the past), and it turns them off to the concept. But a good vaporizer works extremely well. take it from a long-time pothead... one vaporizer hit of some great nugs is very intense and about all I need.

My problem cleared up, I basically posted the article, asithad been emailed me by my father, my parents are tolerant of my...explorations into the world of psychoactives, as long as I am responsible, they don't LIKE it, but they allow me what I consider a very generous amount of freedom to make my own decisions, with more or less the sole exception of ether within my house, and thats just for the reason the entire place reeks afterwards=D

I REALLY don't think it was the dihydrocodeine, I am prescribed 5x30mg daily, for knee pain, and I have, without tolerance taken up to 500mg dihydrocodeine and 25mg rectal morphine, without becoming sick, and I take recreational doses of DHC semi-frequently and uit never makes me sick, apart from two onetime where I had a slight tolerance, the first time I tried it, and being dyscalculic, accidentally CWE'ed 1300mg worth, lovely high, didn't get sick within it, but oh JESUS was the day after riddled with sudden runs to the bathroom, didn't shit for two weeks either.

My problem has entirely stopped, a weeks regimen of domperidone, and 50mg promethazine 3x daily, along with ingesting of lots and lots of green stopped it, and I haven't vomited since, I felt slight queasiness once or twice after bolting food too fast, but nothing more, and nothing that can't be solved with a 2 liter coke bottle, some green and a bucket of water :)

Funny enough, I am on a nice dose of 400mg DHC, 30mg nitrazepam and I have 1/3 odd ounce of very VERY nice green to go with it, and I feel in no danger of an emergency peace offering to the sewerage gods, hehehe.

Cannabis still makes me get sick if I don't have something to nibble on after it, or at least a drink. I think I programmed myself to react that way to quit it.

The whole thing has completely subsided now, for some reason, I was having cycles of extreme nausea and repeated vomiting, I never DID think it was the smokeage, in fact, it was one of the few things that helped and indeed, stopped the vomiting and nausea, and allowed me to eat.

I was more hoping to "prove" to my dad, that it wasn't the green acting as an emetic, as he got it into his head, that cannabis commonly caused hyperemesis gravidarum (even though I'm a bloody guy=D) after reading that study, my parents know I use drugs, and I don't get shit for it, but they don't exactly have the same level of education and understanding of the subject matter as I do, and as do my fellow BLers, so its kind of hard to talk to them sometimes, when they have their heads primed with media-flavoured antidrug propaganda and a lack of the scientific background and mindset with which to investigate objectively.

One thing I am certain of though, was it was definately NOT the dihydrocodeine, making me vomit, as I quite regularly (not regularly enough to become dependent or gain tolerance, but rather, my regular dose) is 600mg or so, sometimes with a little codeine.

I would like to thank all of you for your help, much appreciated.

Oh, and as for the question when was I last drug free? yesterday, I bought 7 2mg diazepam tabs, and got one free by a mistake on the dealer's part, the only "drug free" I do, is when I get more than I pay for=D

Im that way for the most part cuz it does help when you just got done smoking =D Only time ive puked from drugs was from alcohol, hydrocodone, and tramadol....Used cannabis day in and day out for a long while and never had those symptoms. I skimmed what you wrote so I hope im not missing something...

this actually happened to me and i ended up in hospital quite a few time, (only the last time i found out was actually wrong), i would be happy to talk about exactly what happened but i dont have time at the moment, here is a study on it done in Australia, my doctor told me that he had never really heard of it before and that it had just been published for the first time recently.

its a nasty nasty thing

Make sure you look at the tables in this study, they are quite intresting
