Cannabis Induced a Severe Headache

After a 10 year break I just started on Cannabis again as form of alternative pain managment, because I got tired of constant adverse reactions to opiates as my body is very sensitive due to a medical condition and a damaged Autonomic System.

The first batch of pot I got lasted me 2 weeks, in that time I went through a phase where my body had to adjust to the cannabis and experienced a lot of sideffects, however no headaches...

So this week I got a new batch, looked and smelt different and alot more potent. After a few tokes I got nicely stoned but about 30 mins later I developed a severe headache, its now been 2 days and my head is still killin me, the pain originates from my brain stem area the spot where my neck connects to my skull, I always find that same area always acts up whenever I have adverse reaction to substances and becomes, stiff, inflamed, spasming painful and causes severe headaches, but its always short lived and very temporary but this time it doesent seem to be going away.

I am suspecting its the fertilisers or other chemicals used during the growing process or sprayed with that has triggered this, the fact that I am already very sensitive due to my Autonomic Dysfunction has definetly contributed as well. But is it likely my headche will settle down, and does anyone else get headches from pot ?

Also wondering if if I was to wash or steam my cannabis and then re-dry it would that remove any chemicals that it may have been sprayed with ?

It can be very possible that it may be a contaminant such as left-over fert. but Its hard to tell where your batch came from. As for the headache you received, I have been a 'stoner' for 8 years now and ive gotten headaches similar to what you have described but it only occurs when I smoke too many hits in sequention. Do you get the headache right after you take the hit or is it more as the effects stabilize 5-10 min. later? Ive also had these headaches last me days but tylenol got rid of the pain most of the time for me to smoke another sesh. What method of smoking are you using too? If your smoking joints, roll tighter slow-burning joints... If your smoking vape maybe try hitting the vape when there is less smoke concentrated in the chamber. Most importantly though if this is "medical" marijuana consult your doctor as there are no worries in doing so,

Hi, thanks for your response, knowing that cannabis can cause headaches as you have also experienced makes me feel a bit more at ease. The headaches are not immediate, more so about 20 to 30 minutes after.

I am am only smoking joints and I am pretty sure this batch is the problem because the last one never caused me any symptoms like this. I only had 2 sessions from the new stuff and that in both cases I had real bad headaches for the last 2 days and still very painful right now even though I havent smoked any again. Now I'm stuck with several buds I cant even use, what a waste :( Its not medical as its illegal in this country so I cant consult a doctor.

When I first started toking or had a break for a few weeks I found that on my next big smoking session I ended up with a headache. I ALWAYS had to sleep them off.

I also found that for the start of it different strains caused this too, and whether it was grass or polm, so different highs can cause it. You should get over it eventually, so don't worry, you just gotta basically toke it off.

Also, don't take my word for this entirely as you have mentioned it's similar to your adverse reactions, so for the next few times have someone smoke with you so they can keep an eye on you.

It's hard to say what's causing you a headache.

Have you been eating different things lately since starting smoking pot?

Do you eat fast food and other toxic MSG filled food? Lots of stoners do, that's why they are lazy and at times lifeless.

Weed doesn't cause side effects, your diet does.

Weed makes you aware of your body more, so perhaps your body is telling you to stop eating the American diet.

Good luck.

I think I may have injured my neck, what happens is every time I have an adverse reaction to substances my brain stem area becomes inflamed and painful resulting in headaches, it aches so bad I can only get relief by cracking and bending my neck in all directions. The new batch of cannabis really aggravated that trouble spot in my neck and I recall bending it a little too far and hearing a loud crack, since then my neck has become really painful and it feels bruised which may account for the prolonged headaches.

Shucklet, Ye I always keep hydrated as it is an important factor in managing my medical condition.

Kilo, trust me it has nothing to do with food, like I said earlier I never got headches with the first batch of weed and I was smoking that every day for 2 week but then I got this new stuff and 30 minutes later..massive headache, I hadnt even got around to the munchies or eating anything before the headache hit me, I always smoke exactly the same amount because my body is so sensitive I cant afford to over do it or do anything differently.

i get the same headache right in the "brain stem" area like you discribed. It only happens to me the next day. Also I have noticed that i react differently to THC i get very talkative, very funny, flight of ideas, hyper, ect. Then i crash like a bag of rocks. I dont do any of the activities like other people mention. I cant sit down and watch TV ( never makes sense and I just feel like shit when im sitting down) I cant play video games, ect. I can however run around and make jokes and am very fun to be around.
I kinda react differently to other substances like X also. I never get sick when i peak and really seem to enjoy myself more than others. This is not just my opinion everyone i know says that I am very funny and playfull on X, THC, and even alcohol.
