NOTE: If a thread for this already exists, I sincerely apologize. I searched and couldn't find one. but I'm visually impaired (as in legally blind) so error on my part is entirely possible.
Anyway
I started using Cannabis when I was 17
I was diagnosed with a pretty serious mental illness at age 20.
Cannabis has had a profound effect upon my personality and mental health for the better. I don't know what I'd do with out it when it comes to my anger levels and anxiety.
So, I was wondering if anyone else has used or is using cannabis for the treatment of mental illness
NOTE: I'm not at all recommending that anyone use cannabis insted of seeking proper psychiatric care.

I have been Dx with Borderline Personality Disorder and Major Depression.
I can imagine it wouldn't be good for certain mental illness.
but it's been amazing for me.

its a wonder drug for my severe depression , i havent smoke today and i feel hopeless , although ive felt like absolute shit for the last few days , more depressed than usual without weed . Sometimes itll make me less anxious , sometimes more , depending on the strain . It definetly plays a role in my psychotic symptoms , when im high it helps them but overall its no good for that .

it has recently been found that CBD (cannabidiol) which is present in all marijuana and hemp has anti-psychotic effects - in a test using people with schizophrenia and some people given a dose of ketamine both groups showed an equally positive effect as Amulsipride (first gen anti-psych).. i am waiting for a CBD extract that i can use for my schizophrenia - CBD is not a psychotropic drug - quite the opposite - it actually counteracts the psychoactive effect of THC making marijuana a safer drug than pure THC.. CBD also has been shown to protect the brain from cell death due to alcohol use.. some other effects of marijuana are anti-anxiety and anti-stress..

For depression, some people benefit off of energizing, uplifting sativas with high THC strains, although the psychedelic THC can cause you to fall in to circular, negative thought patterns when you're already feeling down.

For anxiety, bipolar, and psychosis, some people like CBD preperations, indica edibles would be the best in this case.

IMPORTANT: Do not smoke weed or do any other drugs if you have mental health problems. They're a bandaid that might be effective at first, but over time they lose effectiveness and cause the mental "wound" to bleed more when you pull the bandaid off (discontinue drug due to side effects). Heal the "wound" first by addressing and dealing with it head on in a sober mindstate, then get high. Cannabis and psychedelics should especially be avoided with seriously mentally ill people.
