Thanks for the compliment. I would mostly like to hear how you think snorting is a better option over simply popping the pill as if it was intended. I don't see much of a point in trying to fix your symptoms. It's obvious your brain doesn't want to be under the influence of THC, so why bother? Weed isn't for you, but I don't say this as if it's something to be ashamed of. Anxiety while high and as a result of long-term smoking are very common. It seems to me like you're just trying too hard. Leave it alone if it isn't suiting you. If "medicine" means anything other than doctor prescribed, then you can shove it. "Self-medicating" doesn't count. Unless you actually have a card for a legitimate purpose, in that case you can disregard that previous sentence. As far as the effects of the melatonin, I STRONGLY, (and I really mean that with the most emphasis as possible) doubt that you are feeling any effect beyond placebo. The body creates its own melatonin. These rates of synthesis are actually INCREASED from weed. It's this natural synthesis that really doesn't make your theory credible to me, that's all. You're basically trying to say real melatonin doesn't work on you, while the synthetic form actually has an effect. I don't mean to be inflammatory towards you personally, but this "cure" that you have discovered is laughable to me. No offense. If you insist on smoking despite your negative reactions, keep using the melatonin if you truly believe it's working, but don't suggest that anybody else do the same. Snorting something from a bottle bought at Rite Aid is totally against harm reduction.
I have severe, crippling, AHDH which pretty much keeps me from leaving the house many days, and while I don't yet live in a state with MMJ, I've had open-minded doctors give me the go-ahead to use cannabis for a decade. After it started producing the negative effects, my psych switched me to amphetamine, which worked, but the way speed made my body feel --- fuck that shit. Probably long term neurotoxic effects too. So I went back to cannabis, and dealt with those side effects.
As for snorting the melatonin, which is chemically identical to endogenous melatonin mind you, rapid onset and high bioavailability:
"The absorption rate was rapid (Tmax=7.8 min), and the absolute bioavailability was high, 84.07%. A good correlation was found between in vitro release and in vivo absorption data," from 'Intranasal administration of melatonin starch microspheres.' If the consensus is that my method of intranasal administration of melatonin is so harmful, then I'll try sublingual, but I doubt it will have as rapid onset or high bioavailability.
As for placebo, check out this article, "Premedication with melatonin: a double-blind, placebo-controlled comparison with midazolam," where the researches conclude that melatonin is a suitable replacement for a benzodiazepine in the reduction of anxiety and increase in general sedation if given before a standard anesthetic. And you know what, benzos worked for me too, if I don't mind being fucked up and physically dependent, which I do.
As for THC's melatonin releasing qualities, um what use is that to me? I get nasty side effects if I don't predose, and I get none if I do. It's not relavent to me.
Maybe I should take this to ADD.
Also, I just busted out my mg scale, and I was greatly over-exaggerating the doses of the extract I was taking, I said <10mg, but it's actually to 1-3 mg. (Which for forest I did by 30 minutes of soaking and stirring the finely crushed pills in 95% ethanol solution and filtering through a 400 mesh screen then two coffee filters. The solution should be absolutely clear before evaporating and scraping up in a pyrex dish.
