Hey.

Does anyone have any valid scientific studies on the effects of cannabis whilst trying to gain lean mass? Or personal opinions/experiences.

Is it highly detrimental to building muscle? Everything I can find contradicts one-another,some places say its fine and some say smoking lowers testosterone therefore having a negative impact on building mass.

Does anyone here workout and smoke? I only smoke max 3x a week, and its usually AFTER working out on work out days to help relax and eat food/sleep. Although I cannot smoke the night before a workout and push myself as hard as I could not smoking the night before, so I never do that.

I am willing to give up if it is that detrimental, but for the moment it seems to help more than anything. I get more motivated about lifting in general when high (not that I could actually lift lol), it helps me get in more calories and helps me fall asleep nice and early.

thoughts?

I smoke and lots of other bbers smoke too... From what I've read previously it doesn't do any favours for the Test/Est ratio but nowhere near as bad as booze. Also sleep is more disturbed whilst using weed.

Personal choice, really.

Pro: Helps me eat and deal with the soreness

Con: Sucks all the fucking motivation to do anything right out of me

Agreed. It does suck out the motivation a little, depending on the stuff. If I find lighter colored Indicas, I don't get that sedated. As for the darker colored sativas, I'm done for a few hrs, and out like a light. This stuff helps me big time at night when using tren.

Same with hash, the darker the hash, the stronger it is. The lighter the color of the hash, you get more of an "uplifting" buzz that I prefer oh so much. Eh...

I think I can make a good reply to this seeing as I have been a canabis user and bodybuilder/ weightlifter.

I smoked canabis throughout my teens and it killed my motivation to do any excercise.
So ended up 17years old looking like a 12 year old and feeling like sh1t.

Which in turn made me quit weed and train like a psycopath, I lived for the gym from that day.

N the depression/anxiety/paranoia from which canabis gave me has never fully gone away its always lingering around.
Hence why I always have the motivation to eat like a beast and go to the gym.

Whenever I smoke canabis now I get severe paranoia and have deep introspective thoughts about myself....I literally got to go to the gym just to let out the aggression/ dark thoughts I get plagued with. (hence why i very rarely blaze)

However if canabis made me mellow then it wouldnt motivate me or be beneficial what so ever it can make you very lazy.

Conclusion: Totally depends on the person

Your lungs are meant to breathe air, not smoke. Yah, to each his own I guess. If I smoke, there's no way I'm avoiding all the junk food I can shove in my mouth, plus it makes my workout intensity the next day halfass at best.

Yeah I have to tilt to that, I seem to get the same symptoms when smoking pot. I have long since quit ( my old lady won't let me anymore), but before I used to smoke sticky Hawaiin lolo every day all day for years. When smoking before, it was a normal requirement for my mental well being and relaxation. But, if I smoke now (after quiting for so long), I get somewhat emotional and have deep reminising (spelling) thoughts about the past. I have tried a few times recently and felt this way. Most of the thoughts are somewhat depressing. I seem to be "hard on myself" when I am stoned, I critisize the way Ive lived for the last ten years (drugs, jail, etc) and it puts me on a major low... Not good for a person that is constantly working out, supporting a family by working a full time job, and getting an associates degree. Too many things on the table right now to be messing around anymore . No thank you. Maybe when I get older I might re-unite with the kron, but right now Im good with the way things are.

I suppose the only way it'd help me is if I use it as a reward at the end of a workout. As long as my workout is early in the day, and I don't have anything that requires any quick wit, I could get by with rewarding myself. If I smoke a lot, I also notice my lungs' capability goes down, so I try to make it a requirement to run 3-5 miles any day that I smoke.

If I smoke at night, I'll be groggy and lazy the next day, so that's why I'd prefer to keep it early.

Binge Artist you have no idea what you're talking about. I am in the best shape in my life and the main motivation I have is combining the weed and runner's high when I'm done working out. Of course it's not smart to workout high, but smoking cannbius everyday and working out is no problem (at least for me). Hey, maybe I just have more testostrone(sp?) then you guys :)

And opiates have been proven to lower test, there isn't near as much evidence to show that weed lowers it. In fact, there are studies that show no effect on the testostrone. I'm sure it might lower it a little bit, but with opiates I couldn't even workout (when I was addicted). With weed it's no problem.

Also we can't forget, Arnold was a habitual smoker in his bodybuilding days. Obviously he did steroids too but before that he was still pretty big, and he smoked all the time.

I have cycled and smoked everyday during, and cycled and not smoked at all. Cannabis does nothing to impede my progress. If anything, it helps, as i can eat a shitload of food and not get full. Obviously, the more protein you eat, the more results you get. As mentioned before, it is very nice to be able to get high after a grueling workout and ease some of the soreness. If i smoke before my workout, i feel lazy. Which i dont do, why would i want a shitty workout?

Marijuana gives me bipolar depression several hours after the high wears off. The longer I smoke it consistently for, the longer the bipolar episode will last. If I smoke weed for say, 7 days straight, then stop, about 6-12 hours later I will enter a bipolar episode that will last about 12 hours. It also gives me severe psychosis when I am actually high on it, I walk in circles sometimes for hours lost in thoughts that wont stop cycling in my mind. I also get a terrible sleep, tossing and turning for hours because the thoughts wont stop.

For me, its pretty much all negatives.

Cannabis increases my maximum weight limit and reps. It increases my motivation and performance in the gym. I am also amazing at stretching and yoga when stoned, compared to sober.

Like I said, how can it be healthy to breathe in a shitload of smoke pre-workout?? You're still breathing carcinogens and shit into your body. Seems people forget that when it's just 'harmless' pot.

And tadpole, if you have to smoke to deal with the soreness... :\ toughen up a little bit man. :)

Yes but a hit or two of weed is A LOT less smoke then a full cigarrete. I don't feel out of breath or anything when I workout. Also, weed has no association with lung cancer (this is even admitted by the govt.) AND weed doesn't have radioactive shit put it in like cigs do. The radioactive content mixed with the tar from cigs makes it way worse for your lungs.

And you don't have to smoke pot either, you can vape or eat it. So it is harmless pot...

We can get into one of these debates of smokers vs non-smokers and never be able to finish it. I have good effects and bad effects with weed. Some people find it nothing but beneficial, while others find it intolerable. If I were to start smoking everyday again, I am sure that mmost of the bad side effects would disappear like they have done in the past, but the fact remains: I Dont Want To start smoking right now. I have too much stuff going on right now that requires quick wit in social situations at random times. I dont want to add stress by re-adapting my body to another habit. My old lady doesnt want me to smoke either, she hates the stuff, so theres even more stress. I get long drawn out introspective thoughts on weed that I dont want to go through again. But, in the end , I did LOVE MJ at one time and will probably reunite with her someday years from now when everything calms down and the time is right...

Yes cause the government is god.

Stoners (and drug users in general) are so hypocritical. When the government will agree with their opinion, they point to the governments agreeing like its the definitive answer. But the second the governments opinion doesnt match theirs, they laugh at the government as if suddenly now they can see them for the goons they are.

Its also funny to me that marijuana users (I was one for many years, but it never deluded me into believing it wasnt doing major damage to my body), always seem to think marijuana is harmless. News flash, THC is an insecticide. It was created by the plant to POISON living things, your not an exception, but get high enough and you will start to believe you are.

Face it, the only truly healthy thing for the human body is what nature intended; breathing fresh unpolluted air, drinking clean water, grazing in a field and foraging through the forest for fresh fruits, and ripping a gazelles carcass to fucking shreds. Anything to the contrary is going to fuck shit up, but who gives a shit? Just dont try to justify it by saying its harmless, thats delusions de grandeur. Accept it, your harming yourself, now say "But I dont care", thats the only answer.

^ I agree the first paragraph there. As far as THC and health, though, I would say it's not nearly harmful as, say saturated fat, alcohol, or real air pollution, so there's no reason to compare it to anything that does 'major damage to your body'. Sure, smoking ignited plant matter might not be healthy, but there are other healthier ways to administer MJ anyway.
