Trudeau and MacKay clash over pot policy after Tories call out Liberal leader for discussing legalization at school

Justice Minister Peter MacKay is accusing Liberal leader Justin Trudeau of promoting recreational drug use “directly to children” after Mr. Trudeau discussed his party’s plans to legalize marijuana while speaking to a Brandon, Man., public school.

“He’s already sending children the message recreational drug use is OK. Now, he’s delivering that message directly to children,” wrote Mr. MacKay in a fundraising letter sent out on Thursday.

“That’s wrong, on so many different levels,” he wrote, adding that Mr. Trudeau’s “allies in the media” are “making excuses for his mistakes.”

The issue also appeared to dominate Mr. MacKay’s appearance at the final press conference of a gathering of provincial justice ministers in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Just as questions wrapped up on Thursday, Mr. MacKay interjected to call Mr. Trudeau’s actions “disgusting,” “appalling” and showing a “profound lack of judgement.”

Do Canadian politicians regularly give political speeches to elementary school students?

When I was little my kindergarten took a field trip to see Fidel Castro speak. I remember sitting for like five hours while he went on and on and on. The only point of putting very young kids through that is to indoctrinate them into the notion that this guy is the boss.

It's been what about the bloody children for over 30 years when will these little shits finally grow up.

What's really disgusting is sacrificing your children's health for the profits of the alcohol and tobacco industries.

When I was at school I strongly believed that drug users all had a problem and were by definition losers. And that they were children of broken marriages, depressed, listened to Pink Floyd, lefties, drop-outs of college, etc. This belief evaporated within 3 weeks of being away at Uni. Thank God!

Actually I was right about the Pink Floyd bit. But I ended up buying all their albums, even the Syd Barrett solo albums which apparently make perfect sense when your tripping.

I recall feeling the same way for quite some time.

When I was in Grade 5 or 6 (it's been approximately 2 decades, so my memory is rather fuzzy), some cop showed up to class one morning with an inconspicuous looking briefcase. Inside was a mini pharmacy's worth of recreational drugs.

Anyways, the message that day from the pig was that "drug abuse is for losers, and that if you see someone using, you should call the cops right away because they are criminals." Little did I know that two years later I'd start using myself.

Nowadays, I like to think that I have a lot of sympathy, empathy, and tolerance for drug users. They/we are humans too. They/we don't deserve to be treated like scum because of the decision to use.

That doesn't mean that I think it's completely excusable for an addict to steal for a fix, or to use other forms of violence to get what they want. That being said however, I can understand why someone would do such a thing (insanely high prices + withdrawal) because I've been there myself countless times (going into wd and trying to figure out how to come up with enough money to grab a fix).

Using drugs recreationally is ok.

With current events in law and politics of mirjuana hes probably more the wise to be talking about it to the future citizens of america.
