Canada - Study into Montreal’s ‘filthy’ crack houses...

I completely agree that this is a thing, I just disagree that it's at all common for sex workers who use drugs and work to sustain a habit to lower their prices to a point significantly lower than the cost of the drug.

I agree with you as well, the distinction being just that they lower their price point, but not to below the level needed for the rational "goal," which is to obtain crack cocaine. So if crack sells for 10, and their normal price is 20, I would agree 100% you'll never get it in for 9.

'Sex worker' glosses over what prostitution really is, and how it's violence and forced sexual slavery for women, men, trans people and children who are all forced into prostitution either by a pimp, coercion, relatives/friends, or by life/circumstances/poverty/drug addiction.

The term also completely ignores how a lot of prostitutes are victims of sex trafficking.

With people who are addicted to crack and other drugs who are prostitutes a lot will trade sex for the drug, or lower how much they want clients to pay for sex so they can get any cash to buy drugs they are addicted to.

^ Very interesting. I did not know that it was possible to survive the tests provided that they get an acceptable choice they could survive by instinct.

This is how victims of sex trafficking are 'locked up'. Not only their passports but their dignity is probably lost for good. And in some cases they weren't prostitutes but students trying to get a free ticket to Europe so they could work there, for instance.

They become daily heroin users from day 1. They have to use it by force. Much more than they need so they perform their 'tasks' quietly and make more money for their dealers.

This is becoming a huge criminal activity nowadays and highly profitable. Trillions of dollars!!

Any one saw the movie Lilya 4ever? I only watched it until the end because it was part of work.
It comes to a point that nothing can save them anymore. Nothing but death. They have zero perspectives. They have no other choice as they are slaves and have no way out.

These people go on doing what they do a dozen of times a day until they become a zombie.
Very sad and it's happening every day all over the world.

While these cases are real and extremely tragic, to claim that all prostitution takes place within this kind of context of physical force and violent coercion is bs. In reality there's a complete spectrum of prostitution, from those who are victims of violence and organized sex trafficking to those who are pushed into it by more subtle coercion to those who initiate it themselves as a means to fund their drug habit to those who simply view it as a job and choose to take on the work for the high pay and flexible hours, either full time or on an occasional basis (and of course all sorts of other situations at various points along the spectrum). The issue is much more complex than media stereotypes and moral panics.

My girlfriend is a part time sex worker, as she doesn't get enough modeling and acting gigs right now to live on. And this is a wonderful person who is as far as one could imagine from the addict prostitute image. She does what she has to do to live, it's not Luke she's going to be tricking forever. Considering the stereotype here I feel like I have to defend her choices, but I'll leave it at I love this girl. Even though she's an occasional sex worker atm she so much, infinitely more.

There is such a large spectrum of sex workers as mentioned, and there are a LOT of cases, I'd say the much more than not, where a girl or guy is only a part time sex worker.

I disagree that an addiction "forces" you to do anything. Also the idea that sex trafficking victims are chained to a wall is BS. The fact is they have chances every day to call the police and get rescued. It is impossible to help most of these people and I am sick of human trafficking being blamed as the reason we have no red light districts in North America. If a pimp hits you, call the fucking police. How come no one forces a steel worker or school teacher to hand over all their income? Why is only sex workers being exploited? This is bullshit and it's being used as an excuse to stop consenting adults from doing what they want.

Aw, that's lovely. Good on you for not caving to societal stigma.

Pimping is a product of criminalisation. It amazes me that people hold up an example of something that explicitly occurs in an oppressive and discriminatory legal environment as proof that we need more police involvement in the sex industry.
