Canada: Get-tough plan on drugs doomed

The Canadian Medical Association said it is pleased the government is paying attention to drug treatment and prevention, but it is concerned that harm reduction programs were not part of the plan.

"This campaign has to be more in-depth than what we have seen in the past... 'Just say no' is not enough anymore," CMA president Brian Day said in a statement.

I can't believe this...I don't understand politicians. Everyone that wants to be a politician does a SHIT job at it, most of the people that have no interest in that area would do amazing things for this country. Harper is a fucking bitch for not learning from the HUGE mistake the U.S.A is doing with their war on drugs. It only causes wasted money and time. IMO he should be working the opposite way, and stop trying to stop something that will NEVER be stopped. People like to use drugs, deal with it! Maybe if you stopped focusing on the negative effects and took your head out of your ass you would see the amazing things drugs can do. (in moderation of course) UGHHHHHH this is pissing me off, I'm off to smoke. FUCK HARPER! Wheres a sniper when you need one?

well no sniper has taken bush out lately.....so harper is definatley not looking like a possiblilty.

polititions are people except they lack one human trait....common sence

It's all about control. Experiencing different parts of the conscious spectrum not only allows, but requires that people think differently. Keeping the masses confined within a certain set of thought frequencies and conscious patterns allows for control.

Bbaaaahhhh

Of course, there are always the idiots who give thought expanders (via drugs) a bad name -- the abusers :| -- while I don't think most politicians wake up each morning determined to save those individuals from their selves, they certainly do recieve impetus in their efforts from the abusers who hurt their friends, family, loved ones, and their own selves when they abuse.

If you're over using, stop abusing and start living: unless you like helping the conservative cause in relation to drugs.

The amount of money they are investing in their anti drug plan is ridiculous. 64 million is nothing compared to the US, which i guess could be seen as a positive, but why even bother to put that much in if its not going to do shit.

And the fact that he has refused to acknowledge that harm reduction is useful is fucking retarded. People will always use drugs no matter what you say or do, so you might as well help them reduce the risk to themselves and others.

I think we can expect to see the injection center get shut down in BC. Although he said he was waiting for the research to come in, he pretty much summed up his opinion by saying he was a skeptic of harm reduction. I fucking wish those terrorist cut of his head sometimes, a little reality check for the people of Canada...

Yea they wanna continue this "war on drugs" bullshit and try to claim its drugs that are a medical concern . that were a medical concern and it needs to be enforced . yet what about the fucking cigarette companies , the alcohol companies , firearms . the automotive buisness . all the pesticides and herbicides they put on our food . the hormones given to beef and chicken ranchers for all that "fantastic" meat we eat . what about all that shit .

if you ask me . if they want to attack someone for being a health risk or medical "leech" . start with all that crap . im sure im not the only one who thinks that marijuana let alone other drugs in short moderation dont hail in comparsion to the damage that the above companies commit on the world alone .

I honestly don't understand how the conservatives were elected. Everyone i talked to said they were going to vote liberal. I have a wide variety of freinds, so it wouldn't be a biased poll. I think it's well known Conservatives are not "for the people". I just pray to God that they don't retain power. I can honestly see Canada losing it's free health care, most Canadians really don't understand how much we actually benefit from it. I know personally I've probably saved around 50 000$...

and yes I realize it isn't "free", but I'd rather have smokers paying for my bills and taxes going to the welfare of my country instead of a mass killing machine..

reminds me of the upright citizen's brigade drug episode with the DONT THINK! program, making fun of programs such as this.

Sucks for sure. How much of it will be visible on the streets? That is to be seen.

What will probably happen is that regions who are by nature straighter and more conservative will be happy to apply the tougher rules.

Most of BC (heya cousins!) and Quebec will do the same as usual: pretty much nothing, as most policeman (here in Montreal anyway) are smokers, sometimes on the job.

I've had 0 problems with smoking anytime, almost anywhere for years. It's just part of the culture. Weed + poutine? Booze + hockey? Latin dancing + coke? Raves + mdma + threesomes?

In Montreal, it's a cultural thing, and the de-facto standard.

Some people around here are whiny bitches sometimes, but if Quebec didn't exist, the rest of Canada would be an uptight, boring, and square place. We just balance things out and ask for money in return :p

...Weed + poutine?...
ahaha, (i dont like poutine but im from quebec,, and that made me laugh :) )

edit : ive being to party where they were cops (off duty), and even if they don't smoke, they probably realize that people they could arrest are just like their friend who smoke,
basically : normal folk who are just having a good time and means no harm,
so, no point for them to enforce a law they know is not making sense ...
,, so thanks to every Canadian cops who have at least more than half a brain and wont encourage this anti-human bullshit,, +1

And btw, Harper is not "ultra conservative" and a bad prime minister.

He is just a plain, smart conservative. Which sucks sometimes, but is way better than a complex, lying, dumb and religious conservative like Bush.

Say what you want about his policies (some sneaky things, cultural cuts, relations with journalists, not enough focus on environment, etc) , he has cut the fat in many needed places, and is one of the rare politicians who actualy do what he says instead of showboating all over with nice words and then crashing his country/not doing much when in office.

Canada is once again a strong and believable country with a firm line of thought, good development plans and very strong and resistant economy (14 Billion surplus this year, which would equal for 140B for a Country the size of US. )

Or debt is shrinking fast, our people are mostly happy and some of past choices (socialized medecine etc) are really paying off right now vs the "work or die", "poor or rich" approach of borderline fascist, totalitarian, imperialist and pre-Enlightment regimes such as the US, stuck in a stupid and static two-party regime, all duck-taped together by lobbyists, big money and the "Constitution", which is mainly used as toilet paper by Bush and the congress these days.

Really, from up here, it's painful to see you guys sinking and sinking in a sea of cultural waste, lackluster education for most and God-driven fiscal irresponsibility of titanesque proportions.

Right now Canada is just going through the motions of dissociating its economy and culture from the US, to minimize damage when the Empire inevitably do a Rome out of itself in the next decades. Immigration is still strong here, and we would vastly prefer smart americans over poor Mexicans so move North while it's still time and your money is still worth something... :(

So really, Harper isn't so bad and we'll accept his stupid drug policies (where we != Quebec) if he can keep his balls of steels on the other matters.

Quoted for truth and greater justice

That's because in time I've become a pragmatist, able to appreciate the qualities of even those who rebuke me at first.

Make no mistake. I'm a libertarian, zen-tantrist agnostic with strong views on liberty of press, environment and drug tolerance. I was a liberal before that (still "am" at heart) and was weary of Harper in power.

I am still weary of him, and I do not trust the full extent of his power over a strong, majoritary conservative group.

But I accept he was the obvious best choice years ago and still his for getting things done. He shows obvious qualities at shaping Canada in a cleaner, stronger, straighter force with better focus on how to be a dominant world presence, hopefully for the best of all.

When that happens, we'll just switch party to an LSD-enlightened, yoga master buddhist multi-cultural over-monk and let him play with the nice sandbox. Should be a good time for (most) everyone.

Then put his brain in a tank merger with a quantic-biologic multi computer and fuse the consciouness of everyone into one. By then we'll just run around in inexistant worlds, superflous desires or total voids, plugged to a central of consciousness and information, bodies nano-feeded omega3s and piracetam for constant perfect awareness. Then you'll know why post-singularity will never be like post-singularity.

Bottom line: pay the bills, try to have better balance with environment, plan smart usage and transformation of ressources for next decades, use high dollar to buy other countries, find a way to use maple syrup in gas tanks, and play the numbers. When the debt with be at 250 billion compared to the much higher GDP, the numbers say: we can spend the next decades on shrooms and acid, and buy the nice US states.

Harper has been the only credible and efficient politician since Chretien (not a reference, but you know what I mean). All other choices have been void, impratical, illusions based on weak characters and vision. And I don't predict another credible candidate or party for the next 4+ years, maybe more.

So get used to god old conservative ass tunneling becoming the de-facto standard for a while. At least I get to choose the lube (or presence thereof) and have been relaxing my rectum in submissive positions to lessen the unevitable pain non-believers will suffer.

When you will be up against the wall, no one will hear your scream.

Real bottom line: The first one to slip MDMA in Harper's drink and youtube the ensuing events will win the game.

My prediction: massive change of consciousness, perfect combination of rationality and emotion, Canada becomes the birthplace of a new advanced and blissful civilization for centuries to come.

And all thanks to weed!
