Opioids Can You Reverse Grapefruit Juice Potentiation ?

If the inhibitor is irreversible then no (though it would still have some effect), however if it is just one of the reversible concentration dependent ones then I would think it is theoretically possible to increase the rate of metabolism. Whether this would make a difference in the short time span responsible for an overdose is doubtful.

Furthermore enzyme inhibitors and inducers have a much greater effect on the first pass digestive and hepatic metabolism. Once the drugs are through the presystemic processing and are in your regular blood stream, though inducers would help clean them out faster, it wouldn't have the same effect as having inducers before taking them.

edit:
Shooting your drugs (bypassing firstpass metabolism) while drinking grapefruit won't get you any higher, it'll just result in a longer lasting high.

Just to be clear, the compounds in grapefruit juice which cause enzyme inhibition are NOT irreversible. Using an inducer might help your problem, but given your sensitivity to these things I wold strongly recommend against it.

Since so many medications are affected by grapefruit juice, a good deal of research has been done on it's effects and duration. I wasn't saying that your experience was placebo, just that the clinically observed duration of inhibitory effects is 3-7 days. Its possible that you have metabolic abnormalities that change this period of time for you, but whatever the case may be, simply giving it more time is the best and guaranteed solution.

Yeah, I did... I'm not criticizing your idea, I think it probably would work. I just want to know for a fact the answer to this. The action is more complex than just at 3A4, it is also at 2D6 and others.

I still love you man!

Well it's comparable to the idea that taking naloxone doesn't completely make heroin leave your body immediately, so that a heroin overdose patient could need several IV/IM/SC infusions of naloxone to help prevent a deadly response to the drug.

You can't make a drug you took disappear from the body. In the case of WGFJ, this substance is called, if I'm not mistaken, Bergamottin.

Similarly to the heroin overdose example, there's no way to un-take bergamottin, other than not taking it in itself.

So in this sense, I believe enzyme inducers would be the answer to enzyme inhibitors.

There is no other viable way to eliminate it, IMO. Unless the answer is literally using an opiate antagonist to kill the opiate effects directly.

Captain, thats very useful information about Bergamottin and it says "bergamottin is also present in the essential oils of other citrus fruits"...

Having read that has made me realise something very important, now this may be a long shot but still a possibility...you know how I've bothered you guys with all this talk about adverse reactions until now but at the same time on somedays I dont seem to have any bad reaction at all...well something occured to me...is it possible that up until now all my adverse reactions could be as aresult of my diet? perhaps due to a glass of orange juice here and there , some lemon juice in my salads and perhaps consuming other foods that have an inhibitory influence on enzymes ?

Maybe for the avarage joe diet isnt enough to cause any noticeble difference in their response to opiates but for someone like myself who is hypersensitive enough to need to measure his Oxycodone with a syringe measurement and still having issues after a glass of Grapefruit Juice from 6 days ago could it possible that everything thats happened to me until now is because of the foods and drinks I've been consuming? For example if I've had a glass of Orang Juice in the morning and then had a fatty meal followed by ice cream and more Orange juice and then had my Oxycodone...The fact that I can tolearte my meds on some days and other days I cant seems to support the information youve provided about Bergamottin. If so I have to watch what I eat from now on, who knows what other foods ive been eating that have some influence on intestinal and liver enzymes.

It is very possible but I can't be certain for sure.

Maybe you should keep a very specific dietary journal and match it up to positive and negative experiences with your pain medication, this way you can see if there's some sort of correlation?

^Do you know which of the reversible inhibition binding types the grapefruit juice compound is?

Are you asking for the general category for these compounds? In grapefruit juice, some of the compounds can be classified as competitive inhibitors (naringinen) and others as mechanism-based inhibitors (bergaptin.)

The main grapefruit compounds involved in enzyme inhibition are naringenin and quercetin, both of which are flavonoids and also bergaptin (a furanocoumarin of the same class as bergamottin and other related compounds.)
