Opioids Can You OD Without Nodding First?

I looked elsewhere but couldn't find the answer, can you overdose and die (from respiratory arrest) from an opiate/oid without first experiencing a nod? What symptoms would there be if not nodding out? Sorry to make a new thread for this but I really need an answer for this. I'm particularly curious because I want to be careful I am safe with these poppy pods, I feel euphoric but feel no sedation or respiratory depression at all and was wondering how much further I could take it.

Most of the times I have OD'd I didn't have time to nod or if I did I don't remember.

I remember pushing the plunger, the rush then I wake up in a resuscitation ward :|.

Apparently I injected then dropped, pretty instantaneous.

That makes sense with IV use for sure. What do you think would happen with slowly eating morphine containing poppies?

If you go slowly you will be fine. It's when you drink a large amount of PST in a short period of time without knowing the dose that you are in danger.

If you go slow you should be fine.

im not so sure with ingesting opiates but i do have experience with snorting since its my main choice of ROA. a couple of times in the past ive pushed it too far with opiates and after snorting a lot in one sitting, the nod did happen to me first and then got sick and puked. Im not sure if it was a tolerance issue or if i would have OD'd if i didnt puke. I've wondered that since i always felt that its harder to OD when snorting heroin and opiates since its not instaneous and the BA isnt 100%

I imagine the most dangerous way to OD is through intravenous injection, but if I had to rank the other ROA's after that as far as OD risk goes, I wonder which ones would be the worst? Anyone have an idea?

Maybe smoking is the 2nd? I'm really curious about which ROA may be the safest to avoid OD?

I think this might be because smoking it delivers it quickly into the arterial system so it goes straight to the heart. 3rd I would guess might be a tie between oral and insufflated, but maybe snorting is a bit more risky.

I would rank from most dangerous to least dangerous in terms of OD potential
1. IV
2. Insufflation
3. Rectal
4. Eating
5. Smoking

I rank smoking as last because you can dose very small quantities over an extended period of time, and gradually increase your dose to where you want to be. Essentially, if one feels like playing it safe, smoking opiates allows one to do this without re-dosing being as negligible (due to lack of instant feedback) when using the other ROAs. That being said one could certainly OD smoking opiates, and you can get very high with a nice rush if you know what your doing.

I'm not surprised that with IV use (according to tripman and other reports I have read) that one can do a shot, get it in, and then OD and wake up later and have no recollection of being high. I don't know however if this is the case with other ROA. I would be sort of surprised if when eating opiates on the path to OD if you literally felt no effects, but I have never ODed (any ROA) and neither has anyone I know personally.

Heroin is notorious for absorbing slowly through the nose, causing a lot of ODs as result of people redosing before it is all absorbed.

Sounds to me like the faster it kicks in, the better you can gauge another dose. So maybe smoking is safer after all, and maybe IV if you push a little at a time. Just a theory. Slamming all at once is of course the riskiest.

Man I'm sorry but I'd have to go IV, then rectal, from what I understand thats the next fastest way of absorption next to iv, and back to the question, maybe, because the header you take to the floor may be the beginning of a nod lol

Of course!! If you gave yourself a dangerously high overdosage of IV fentanyl, maybe threw in midazolam, all you feel is "oh it'd be great to close my eyes right now" - it doesn't feel like you're on drugs, it resembles more like a peaceful death.

I had IV fentanyl + midazolam for surgery this is what it was like for me, it was an extremely surreal experience.

No I've heard from a lot of people that smoking heroin is the safest roa. It doesn't really make sense to me as I imagine the onset would be pretty instantaneous, almost like injecting, but I've even heard addiction specialists tell me that injecting is the most dangerous and smoking the least
