can you get hpv or stds through sharing cocaine dollar bill straw

Hey

im very scared. i was at a party and there were a few people doing coke.

i usually dont do drugs with other people that i dont know, especially sharing gear (in this case a dollar bill used as a straw for snorting).

however, i did some coke. i was passed the dollar bill and i snorted, and after a few lines i noticed the bill felt moist and to my surprise......there was blood on the bill. the bill obviously had nasal mucous from everyone using it, and the blood seemed to be mine.

my nose was bleeding days after. i didnt have any sexual contact with anyone but im afraid because now (weeks later) i have bumps around my genital area. they look like what might be warts.

Could I have gotten an STD/infection/HPV/warts from sharing the dollar bill? i dont want to ask my dr if i could have gotten an std from using cocaine so im asking here first.

my worry is that my nose was bleeding for a few days after doing the coke and now i have these wart symptoms....

so again, CAN YOU GET VIRAL/STD INFECTIONS FROM A BLOODY DOLLAR BILL USED FOR SNORTING COKE?!!!!!

Please help me put my mind at ease, even if the answer is bad.i just need to know

I don't know if you can get it from sharing a straw.


But, hpv is common. Real common. If you've had sex with someone who isn't a virgin you probably have it. I believe I've read at least 50% of sexually active people have hpv. Usually there are no symptoms.

If you're seeing any symptoms, go to a doctor.
 
If you snorted someones blood who was infected i could see that being possible but i think its more likely you got it from having sex with someone who had it and the symptoms just didnt show up right away like phrozen said. But regardless you need to get tested and if you have hpv then its already to late and theres no sense in getting all worried about it because whats done is done.

As this is probably good for harm reduction as it'll encourage people who snort drugs to use their own bills/straws, it's still not a very accurate comparison. Sharing a straw or bill isn't as dangerous as using a used condom (and, really, who would do that? I imagine people would just not use a condom....)
 
OP, yes you're definitely putting yourself at risk sharing like that. Hepatitis C is transmitted this way, as well as other diseases.

Get yourself thoroughly tested.
 
There was a recent episode of "House" in which specifically a person got Hep C by sharing a cocaine straw with someone. I know it's "just a TV show," but it is known for its medical accuracy so I'm sure this episode was based on prior true cases.

So yes, you can pick up a nasty bug from sharing a coke straw.

Go to a Planned Parenthood or free clinic near you, they deal with stuff like this all the time and will respect your privacy.

QFT i saw it on an episode of "House MD"

sorry to the poster above me.. i didn't realize you had already said the House thing, cuz when i saw dokomos post it immediately brought it to my mind and i wanted to post asap.. and now i feel like an ass for repeating what you just said lol.. my b
On House they cure hep c by administering hep a and the hep a eats away all the hep c virus and then you just need to cure the hep a which is "supposedly" easier than treating hep c (this is how they treated it on House lol)

Ah god, I used to worry about this all the time... especially when I was doing a lot of coke. Kind of sickens me that you actually CAN catch something this way, although no lumps on my dick so far and it's been quite awhile (years) so I should be in the clear.

I know the big problem is a lot of time you're snorting something and you don't have any bills left cuz you used them to buy whatever it is you're snorting -- good solution is stick an old lottery ticket in your wallet or in your car (a lot less conspicuous than a cut up straw!) they're pretty sturdy, roll up nice and - at least where I live - have a smooth, shiny surface like really old rolls of fax machine paper... so no tiny little particles get stuck to it.
 
^No need to freak out, just get tested (and bring your own straws from now on ;) )
 
^ Honestly I am scared to -death- to get tested, I know I have done permenant damage to my body somehow. When I was younger and knew nothing about drugs I used to take a lot of Vicodin and Percocet, well over the 4g a day guideline. Used to do more like....15g a day...amongst other things.
My liver proally looks like a block of Swiss Cheese

Guess it's better to know than not know, because eventually, you will know, one way or another. I just fear the worst. Ugh I hate to think of it even.

Don't let the fear of a bad result keep you from checking. I've seen people worry themselves sick for months and it turns out everything is fine. The bottom line is, you don't know until you've been tested and with so many things if you catch it early, there is SO much you can do in terms of treatment.

As far as your liver is concerned, you at least know about it now and are (hopefully) not drinking or taking acetaminophen excessively. If you take care of it now, you can keep whats left around for many years to come :)
 
^ Very true, I rarely drink, but am prescribed percocet, but I CWE them most of the time. Guess I will go get tested, hell if I know im dying maybe theyll give me the good shit :D
 
Get tested right away.
Anything you could get from unprotected sex or sharing needles can be passed by sharing tooters. The most common is Hep C, but I could see HPV being an issue. (Note - once you get treated for HPV there is now a vaccine out for it, get it, as some research estimates up to 75% of sexually active people 18-24 have HPV.
If you are at a bar or nightclub, just grab 2-3 extra straws and use a penknife to cut them up into 3 pieces or so. I always do this, then hand em out to my friends when they try to give me a dollar bill or some shit like that. I also give em a quick little education on how dangerous this can be.

Also if I'm planning on snorting a bunch of shit some night, I bring a 2 visine bottles, take my share of the substance, make a tiny little funnel out of paper, put substance into visine bottle, add water, shake, drop in a cotton or cig filter, suck the liquid out with the other visine bottle and presto you have a much more pure, filtered substance which will absorb much faster into your nasal mucousa. Plus you don't have to find flat surfaces and can pretty much sit anywhere and do it.

Yeah, hep c is able to survive quite a while, and can be passed through minuscule amounts of blood, that may not even be visible with the naked eye . It's much more common than AIDS amongst drug users.

Also, you can get it from sharing smoking devices. Crack pipes from example, which are known for heating up and causing cut up lips...


Don't share any paraphernalia. Period.
 
While it is a good idea to get tested, don't freak out because it's really crazy odds that you actually WOULD get something from sharing a straw.

Remember, on "House" they like to pull out all the weird, one in a million conditions because it makes for more interesting stories.

Your chances of getting hep C from sharing a straw are about the same of contracting African Sleeping Sickness ;-)
