can you get add medication if your an adult

As a child I had add but I never took any medication I guess it wears off when i grew up but any way I would like some dexies just for a buzz and I know all symtoms of add are dexies prescribed to adults

In order to get a ritalin/dex medication, the doctor must get authorisation. Many psychiatrists don't do this for adults and instead prescribe strattera, but some specialists may but they contact your doctors, etc and takes a while to get depending on ur history.

I would just like to add that, given the circumstances and your age, you will need to give your gp/professional some past history information, The older you get the harder it is to obtain medications of this type.

i have a friend who did an extensive study on adult ADHD, and managed to fool the doctors/psychiatrists into believing he has the condition... he pops his dex on a regular basis! if your willing to do some study, u might just be able to pull it off. He is 22.

I'm 27 and can get them easier thn any other prescription drug.
If you don't have a history off drug use you can get them easily enough.
But it can take a bit as someone else mentioned as they are authorised.
I think because I got diagnosed through the courts at 17 it makes it easier for me to obtain them.

I forgot to add that I do have a history of drug use so they send me for a urine test every 6 months I get the tablets.
I never go though and no one ever questions me about it.
I get 200 every 21 days.

Not previous history of drug use.... Previous history, education.... etc

Edit: Do you have ADHD/ADD ?

Oh and I think it's lame to get some dexies "just to buzz" because it may make it harder for someone with a legitimate need for the medication.

I dont want to turn this into a personal Q&A, but im just interested to know, at what age they diagnosed you with ADHD, it was only later in my life, well 5 years ago at age 14 that i was diagnosed with ADD.

As the years went on, i started to notice a trend in doctors handing out medicaitons of that type like lollies. Would they be receiving incentives from pharm companies for this, even with the strict authorisation procedures they have to go through ?

Couldn't agree with you anymore on that one.

When i was 17 mate. I played up in court and and they decided to get me sussed out by some doctors to see if I was mental LOL
I had to see 3 doctors to make sure I had the condition before they would prescribe me the medication due to my history of drug abuse. Two doctors diagnosed me with ADD and one with ADHD, I suspect my H comes from all of the amphetamines I have abused in the past. They actually said in court that my ahetamine use stemmed from trying to self medicate. I was on both ritalin and dexamphetamine for a while as I was getting euphoric from the ritalin LOL
Yes I have also seen an increase of the medication use. Especially when concerta came out.
But I also think that it's easier to detect these days and I have read different articles that have said 1 in 10 people have the condition.
How come you got diagnosed?

I was diagnosed when my grades kept dropping every year even know i appeared to be a smart lad, all the teachers and people could not understand why i did not try at school.

I would never listen and even when i tried things just did not click, poor memory problems, piss poor concentration at all times, my perception and logic on everything was much much different to others and i seemed to see things at very different perspectives. This may all seem normal to alot of people who dont have ADHD/ADD, but let me just say you definatley know when you have it. There are many other factors that contribute to my Diagnosed ADD but i simply cant explain it, but im sure you know what i am talking about rm1x.

As the years went on some of the symptoms did fade away, others still evident to this very day. I seem to be coping much better without Methylphenidate and Dexamphetamine due to their stimulant nature and bad withdrawals and longterm damage.

The rambling will end here :)

Yeah I have a mate who's 30 and he was prescriped dexies this year. 10 x D5's a day.
Probably like you he went through his whole life with ADD not knowing exactly what was the cause of his behaviour, until recently a doctor diagnosed it.
Clearly the diagnosis was correct as he gets no buzz off them, just the opposite. The drugs totally slow him down. I presume if you actually have/had ADD then the effects would be similar.
Good luck.

yeah they make me as boring as batshit if I take the 6 per day.
Shit he must be a pretty big guy to be on 50mg a day!

Indeed, that is quite a large introduction dose. A few years ago when i was first prescribed dexamphetamine, the introduction dose was 10mg daily, which after continued use built up to 50mg -75mg a day just to get threshold effects for 2 - 3 hours, they started to produce nasty comedowns after the 3 hour period as well.

My story is that i was diagnosed (legit) at 17 i was refered by a GP to a specialist, the specialist saw me once and diagnosed me then in two weeks on my next visit i was prescribed dexie as the first and only type of treatment. In NSW it does go through the health authority which takes a while, they have to redo it every year aswell, and i ended up on 6x5mg a day.

As i said in another thread I ended up getting arrested while in drug induced pyschosis aswell as having weed and a pill i had 20 dexies in a satty on me. I told my doctor a couple days later that i had gone into psychosis after what i said was taking my dexies normally then one pill then weed instead of the truth which was that i had also taken 10 dexies and had a .5g of speed but i did tell him about the 20 dexies in a satty and that i did sometimes combine dexie with other drugs. The amazing thing is he said he was still willing to prescribe me dexies though i might have to pick up less at a time or go to spansules, the only killer thing was he said was when he told the health authority they would make me take a witnessed urine test every two weeks for a year.

I declined and no longer see a pyschiatrist, to be honest my add interfers in my life pretty heavily but i try think about it as little as possible, when i see my psych all the time i reckon i dwell on it, label myself and always think about my limitations, no psych and i rarely 'remember' i have ADHD and just get on and do stuff the best i can.

As for faking it i really dont thinks it worth it, by the time you've added up the expense of the medication, the expense of the 'gap' (amount medicare wont pay for your visits), expense of lugging ur arse to see your doctor you would have been better off just buying ice by the gram......

I went to a doc because I thought I legitimately have ADD, I told him my symptoms which coincide with ADD and he must have thought I'm straight up bullshiting him to get those pills for a cheap buzz.

He also said I have to see a psychiatrist to get dexamphetamine. WTF, you have to see a fuckin shrink to get dexies prescribed?! Jeez, what schedule are these drugs under anyway? Are they S8?
