Can that be done or is it usually just one or the other. I was thinking the kpins could be used for managing anxiety and xanax could be for break through panic attacks...am i corrcect?

Yes you are. You can indeed be prescribed both. Often doctors will try to stick to just one if they can help it, but sometimes a long acting and a short acting benzo are both needed.

Depends on your country and, more specifically, your doctor. Some may see it viable to prescribe a long-acting maintenance benzo, such as clonazepam, with a quick-acting acute response aid such as alprazolam. Two benzos at a time is an idea many doctors will immediately dismiss, but it is possible and I've had such prescriptions (though never two anxiolytics - one anxiolytic and one hypnotic; eg. clonazepam/temazepam).

When I've sought help for a similar problem, my particular doctors have changed my prescription to lorazepam - it is fast-acting and is often found to be a slightly more effective anxiolytic. I was prescribed 0,5mg-1mg daily for anxiety management, and an additional 0,5mg for acute onset of panic.

My dr gave me Xanax for quick actin and Valium 2 x's a day for an all day lastin benzo. Took a long ass time for him to do this tho. Most drs don't like givin 2 benzos at once. However it has managed my panic/anxiety the best after tryin everything med wise. It can work really well if your dr will let you give it a go.

he literally said i dont want to turn you into an addict. im already prescribed 90 klonopin a month. Instead of him giving me xanax he gave me a buttt load of gabapentin 120 300mg...which would be my second choice anyway so w/e. Thanks for the responses!!!

oh fuck...you got Rx'ed gabapentin for breakthrough anxiety and you took 4000mg of it on your first dose?

It isn't going to do shit for you when you actually need it to now, most likely...at least...not in a manageable therapeutic dose...

I'm not sure what it's max dose in the indication of anxiety, but I know it has a maximum dose of 3600mg/DAY for neurological pain...and I think that was the highest it got...I'll check my sister's nursing book...

okay...it didn't list it for the indication of anxiety...this drug has MANY off-label uses, but 3600mg was the limit for all indications except when used for post-herpatic neuralgia and patients with renal impairment...

but still...you went over the maximum daily dose in your first dose...I don't see it helping with your anxiety much at all...

I was prescribed Xanax, valium and rohypnol at the same time at one point.

So yes, doctors can mix up benzo scripts. They just dont like to.

When I moved to arizona I thought I was in heaven. I walked out of my first doctors appointment with 60 2mg kpins, 60 1mg xanax, 90 30mg adderal and a promethazine with codeine prescription to top it all off. That was for each and every month. When she got fired it broke my heart. But yes, it's more than possible, especially with a doctor that doesn't give a shit haha.

When I was admitted to the hospital for my first panic attacks, I was prescribed 1mg Kpins and .5mg Xanax. Not much but I was happy

I really dont need it for anxiety, i just get it scribed knowing that its one of my drugs of choice (sorry BL mods :)

Mine prescribes clonazepam twice a day and xanax 3 times a day. The reasoning is something like kpins can hold a long term anxiety control and xanax can be for short term, such as panic attack.

I have been prescribed both but not for baseline and breakthrough anxiety issues. I'm still prescribed kpins for seziure control and I've heard of it being prescribed as like 3rd line option for restless legs and other things. As far as anxiety treatment most dr's will just rx xanax to control anxiety if your lucky you'll get xanax xr also but unless you've been prescribed benzos for years there is a liability issue most dr's can't stomach. Either feeding or starting an addiction. I know here in Florida psychs treat xanax like the plauge. You gotta go to pain management if you want xanax lol.

i refer back to my psychiatrists infamous words "I dont want you to become and addict". So heres 90 klonopin and 90 300mg gabapentin and 30 ambien....hjfkdsjfjdsk. some psychiatrists are "better" then others I guess? Regardless...i would take high dose gabapentin over klonopin any day. The stuff makes me feel like a demigod. Had a 30mg vyvanse too...awesome mix. Thanks for all the responses!! (But to be honest, if i got xanax id be checking myself into rehab within 3 months)

I have generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, ADD, and borderline personality disorder and the only benzodiazepine that I get is alprazolam (Xanax). I've been on it for over 5 years now and I take 1 mg 3-4x/day. I have asked my psychiatrist for a separate benzodiazepine for sleep (ie. temazepam for nighttime) and he has always just said take an extra alprazolam if you can't sleep or he'd give me something like trazodone. He's given me temazepam once or twice for very severe bouts of insomnia and that's about it.

He says there is no sense and no point in prescribing two benzos at the same time, and this is coming from a generally generous doctor. He is not at all shy of using benzodiazepines, or even barbiturates or amphetamines. For example, I'm prescribed Dexedrine 10 mg IR tabs (20 mg 3x/day). I know another patient of his who is a very severe insomniac who gets Seconal 100 mg (orange capsule). She gets them dispensed 7 a week, not all at once. She very occasionally will sell me 2 or 3 or she'll trade 1 for 3 of my Xanax pills because she doesn't get any benzos. Just the Seconal and I think an SSRI, I think she once said she gets Celexa.

I personally find Clonazepam to be a good basic "blanket" benzo for General Anxiety issues, but for Panic Attacks, it doesn't cut it. Alprazolam will work, yes, but it's stigmatized now. Lorazepam (Ativan) is highly anxiolytic and doesn't have AS much abuse potential as Alprazolam (Xanax) has.

Personally, the clonazepam works for most stuff, but I am definitely going to pursue a short-acting option (I'm already on pregabalin).

@kokaino- how is seconal? Im very curious about barbiturates.....how are they compared to say xanax? Is it more of a sedated feeling? I mean i know they have to have a huge abuse potential seeing they are RARELY prescribed as far as i know.

^ As far as "abuse potential", I think alprazolam and lorazepam are pretty much equal in that department. All studies I've seen on relative abuse potential of benzos, shows lorazepam and alprazolam to be equal. They are equally physically addicting and psychological addiction is all subjective. It depends on the individual person and what floats their boat.

I know people that enjoy Vicodins and find it more addictive than crack cocaine. Go figure.
