Can Weed Change Personality?

I don't believe that weed directly causes alterations in the brain (aka damage) that causes personality changes, but because weed has psychoactive effects, it might have an INFLUENCE on various personality traits and attitudes in the long term, generally this is not a problem, but some people may get problems.

Heavy use can cause people to become somewhat distractable, and physically lazy, though I do NOT believe in amotivational syndrome.

While some people may feel it has had a mild effect on their personality, I have never seen marijuana cause "highly destructive" effects on anybodys personality.

Iv changed I'm now a paranoid person at the best of times I started smoking at 14 everyday for 5 years and my uncle got diagnosed paranoid skitzofrenic a few years ago I think it's best to avoid weed if not keep it in moderation 1 a month

I've also changed for the better since it opened my mind.

as did LSD though.

and I've smoked everyday for 3.5 years straight... and then some!

yes. weed has completely opened my eyes to the world. i am sooo much more aware of whats around me than when i didnt blaze. however, i am not happier than i was before. i definitly feel like ive changed since i started blazing. i started in the middle of 10th grade, and im now in 12th grade. in 11th grade i blazed pretty much everyday for the whole school year, and just looking back on it it just seems so weird and i was so out of it. and now im in 12th grade and doing the same thing. its cool though, i must say i really do like being high.

Agreed. While one's epiphanies, perceptions, or psychological insight may be cannabis-induced, how can one claim that these things would not have manifested in an otherwise sober mind state? I think the people that believe weed makes them lazy are simply lazy people in general. Lazy people enjoy smoking weed because it makes doing nothing seem extremely satisfying and self-fulfilling. THC doesn't kill your motivation, and I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a personality change.

I've most definitely changed since I've started smoking weed, but I can't really say whether it is from the weed. The main changes for me were the way I think. I've become more philosophical and I tend to want to seek out the "big picture" in everything. I've started thinking a lot about how people are connected and about the strings that hold society together and stuff like that. I feel I've also become more aware of the games people play and what drives them to do it.

In my personal experience which includes over a decade of smoking with multiple hundreds if not thousands of different people, I have to disagree.

Oh yes it can. I have yet to meet someone who hasn't smoked 6+ months daily and isn't noticeably different, 99% negatively.

I still think it should be legal though, eventually you realize just because you can't OD on a drug doesn't make it harmless.

i think it changes you not so much as a function of the actual drug but just because it gives you a different perspective on your reality. people have "life-changing experiences" like visiting third world countries and it's not because of some chemical change in their body but because they saw or experienced something that had a profound effect on the way they view their reality.

i've definitely changed because of smoking weed. some changes have been good and some have been bad, but overall i'd say it's helped me.

My personality has definitely changed since I started smoking pot (about 5 years ago).

The list of little differences would go on and on, but the most noticeable would have to be losing my bad tempter (stoned or not).

That's a big generalization imo.

I realized though that weed kinda keeps me sane as well . When I stop snoking I just feel depressed an irritable

The depression will pass within a week or so after you stop smoking. Thats why they say people get addicted if you smoke all day everyday cause when you stop you feel lonely and depressed.

I know how you feel.

I've been smoking it most days for a good 6 months now. Recently cut down, but looking back on how i used to be, things have definitely changed. And seem a lot more boring and repetitive. This may also be due to other drugs I have done though.

When i was 18 I split up with a girl and i was so distraught I decided to commit suicide. I read somewhere that the lethal dose of cannabis was 30 kilos so i decided that would be my method

well i'm 45 now and i've still got 10kilos to go, tbh I realised after the first 5 it was just a cry for help but I just kept going...

(Joke from the fantastic Rory Motion)

Me dad's always got a bit of a black in, except he smokes coal... but as he says "It doesn't crumble very well, and you've got to put loads in...but it only costs £70 a tonne!!!"

(another RM joke)

Yes it does. It depends on the person and many factors but it isn't always a bad thing sometimes it can be a good one.

I love marijuana, and will for life, but I know I'd be better of without it. I have changed plenty since 18 (now 29). Don't know if weed changed me personaly but I am a completely different man then I was back then, I don't feel for the better.

I get the whole "not really living" thing, not noticing stuff etc too but only when sober. since i started smoking daily ive been more interested in life i guess
