Really??? Gatex is just so goddam evil!!! - I can't think of another track that builds suspense like it does - by the end of it, the crowd are absolutely begging for a slammin' techno beat to come in (and, of course, Umek doesn't disappoint :) ). Gatex also has a real underground feel to it - it's not the sort of thing that would ever make it into the national singles chart, nor is it the sort of thing you'd ever hear in a crappy commercial house club. You'd only ever hear it in a proper techno club :)

Have a look at the youtube link I gave (if you didn't already) - Umek - Gatex (live) - just look at what the track does to a crowd - people are going absolutely nuts!!!

To be fair, that's the Tiesto remix of Gatex, so of course you're gonna hear that at the shit events that Tiesto DJs at!!!

In saying that, at least the above youtube clip is from a proper rave with people on ecstasy. When I said 'crappy commercial house clubs', I meant the kindof trendy clubs where people go to drink alcohol and get laid (and where the music is non-stop commercial house).

Can I also add that watching Tiesto behind the decks in that youtube clip made me want to vomit. The guy comes across as a massive tool.
 
tool or not, the guy gets $50,000 to mix 16 tracks in two hours, and then spend the rest of the time prancing around up there doing whatever he wants.

I'm not so big on his current stuff, but honestly, tiesto was part of the revolution of electronic music. some of his older stuff is just awesome.

I love it, i just don't know many names in the genre.

I looked back in this thread and found tracks by "Dusty Kid"... Holy crap that's good stuff. Too bad he isn't coming to the states anytime soon.

What techno producers/djs would you say play music like his? Any stateside producers/djs like him? I'm going to try to recommend them to my local promoters to bring them through town!

Oh, i've seen Carl Craig and Derrick May, and Craig's set blew my freaking mind. That dude is a suave, classy dancefloor killer. Amazing mixing.

Errrrrrrr...............you must have seen a different Carl Craig to the one I've seen on 2 occasions. The one I've seen couldn't mix for shit. Brilliant tunes, but terrible mixing!!!

Dude you're missing out, if you can get with that groove, there's no other like it.

It's similar in respect to the progressive rythmns, dark atmosphere etc, just faster, fatter and more hectic ;)

He also produces boring/ I mean pure techno under the name Luke Mcmillan.
