i've built up a tolerance to oxycodone and my pain won't go away, would switching back down to hydrocodone but in double the dose possibly be effective? the larger question i'm getting at is can switching between different opiods get around tolerance that you have built up for one of them?

Opiates are like dogs. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors but they're all still the same species (Sick analogy right?). What I'm getting at though, is that all opiates are different in subtle ways, but they all act on the body in a practically identical way. It's true that some opiates might control your pain better and stuff like that, but you're not gonna be able to avoid tolerance in any significant way by juggling different opiates. I'd give this a hard no.

Well that depends how much oxy you're taking? I had to make the switch because of shortage here where I live. Even if I could find it, it's unaffordable due to pharmacies price gouging. So yes, it's possible but you need to be careful not to use too much hydro because of the tylenol. And make sure your doctor gives you enough to compensate for the lower mg. See what your doctor suggests, he may be able to give your morphine, fentanyl or something else besides hydro. Good luck, theresa

For pain switching up pain meds is good. Alot of doctors say they like to script different meds so peoples brain don't know what too "expect"... Then there's the drs that script all of the same med. I find a combo works well for me. I take Opana ER and Roxicodone for BT pain. I think combos work best, but everyone is different. What works for me might not work for others.
