I'm quite new to the rave scene but it seems kandi is a big deal at least on this forum. Can someone explain the culture a little, I feel left out :D

http://www.wikihow.com/Be-a-Kandi-Kid-(Girls)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kandi_Kid

some openers. know that kandi kidding is bigger in some areas than in others. here in NM, it is associated with dumbass little kids who go to parties as a place to do drugs, but in seattle it is considered not only normal, but practically obligatory if you are actually going to be accepted into the scene

EDIT: after looking closer at the wikipedia thing, its got some dumb shit in it that must be made up

When Kandi bracelets are exchanged, there is usually a series of hand gestures symbolizing the units of "PLUR" - Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect.

i have never seen that, for instance

still, it has some good points that can get you a general idea

this is what ppl do with their hands

its a fun lil thing to do

Kandi kids are big in the Rave scene in CALI.
they usually are just kids that really like the scene/know about the scene and dress up like the old school days with bright colorful clothing, beaded jewelry, fuzzy back packs, etc etc

And I've definitely done that hand thing to get some kandi haha

Sounds like a lot of fun, not really my cup of tea but I don't judge anyone :)
Thanks for the info guys!

I admit, I was a bit turned off the by the kandi thing in the beginning =)

Now, I love it- it's a conversation starter, and it's a ritual, as silly as it may seem to have a special handshake and hand over some cheap neon jewelry. I love what PLUR stands for, and I think that especially important to have a mantra of community and compassion when we're a huge group of people, potentially under the influence and in a vulnerable state. In general, EDM culture looks out for eachother. The more kandi I see at a club/event when I walk it, the more hugs I get, and the more friendships are forced typically.

I think it's really cool..
Like you can be totally 100% expressive of your inner kid or self. Just wear whatever you want and put whatever kind of thing you feel like and know that everything you do is encouraged and welcomed by everyone (well many people)

Use kandi to express yourself, what you like, use it to show others you love and care about them by giving some of your kandi away. Mainly to express yourself and go all out and though it may look dumb to some people it is the ultimate form of expression of yourself.. It's just beautiful to me.

its a must here in Vegas.

in a way you are looked down upon if you dont have any kandii. lol

i guess (in my opinion) its a form of respect, the saying P.L.U.R.
meaning peace, love, unity, Respect.

and its just awesome when you look down and you see your arm glowing from the blacklights haha

i really only ever go with a few pieces of kandi on. i will trade kandi. i dont ever appraoch anyone wanting to trade, i get approached more often. i will trade if i meet someone cool and we have a nice chat.

but if anyone ever looked down on me for not wearing kandi i would giggle. i have gone to a rave or two before not really lookin my most raver-ish and have gotten some glances from people who looked at me like i didnt belong (when i wasnt rollin face yet.)

but no one has ever openly commented about my dress attire, and i doubt anyone ever will. i will never turn down kandi, but i wont ever feel like im not "part of" for not being decked out in it. kandi doesnt determine ur status at raves. a first timer could sit out home the night before a rave and make 100 singles to wear on each arm.

Same here. Until I had a few on, someone showed me the handshake, and I went around trading with people. So much fun! I've met so many people, and I've learned how to make multi cuffs and 3D ones :)

I'm making a ton for the next event so I can trade legit 3Ds and cuffs instead of singlets.
