can Soma (carisoprodol) be used to help reduce benzo usage?

I take a decent amount of benzo's a day: 2-6mg of klonopin + 50-200mg of librium.

I would like to get off the benzo's or at least cut down on how much i'm taking.

Would Soma be a useful way to help cut down, or even get off them completely?

I'd rather take Soma daily than benzo's...or maybe Soma + much less benzos?

update: May 23, 2008:

I'm taking 20-30mg valium a day and 10-20mg marinol a day for anxiety/insomnia, 2.5-5mg day of focalin which is equal to 5-10mg a day of ritalin... so very low dose) and opium tincture but nothing else, no more naproxen, APAP, imodium, lomotil, suboxone, ambien, sonata, etc. and i'm finally feeling good. anway, i'd like to lower my dose of valium, 30mg is a bit too much for my liking (worried about tolerance and valium losing its wonderful anxiolytic effect that no other benzo (that iv'e tried) gives me, (i've tried ativan, xanax, librium, valium, versed and klonopin). ativan works but wears off WAY to quickly for me. i'd need 8-10mg a day and my doc wouldn't Rx me that i dont think , nor woul di want it... but anyway, would 350-700mg a day of soma help me reduce my opium tincture dose and valium dose ??

i was thinking right now i'm taking

15-20mg morphine (orally, opium tincture)
20-30mg valium

would 350-700mg of carisoprodol help me lower my doses of the two above drugs and if so by how much would you guess?

Watch out! Soma's main metabolite Meprobamate is way worse in it's effects on the brain (benzos only affect the hypotalamus, whereas meprobamate acts more like a barbituate), this is coming from someone who takes 12mg of clonazepam a day, and ended up in the ER with shock and a pressure of 4 nd had to be intubated after taking 10somas, I used soma heavily to potentiate benzos and opiates, butafter that experience I won't touch the stuff again, and I can get it OTC, I hadn't used soma in a while but was on benzos, so I wouldn't trust much in the cross-tolerance, watch out with the doses of carisoprodol, anything over 1400mg is dangerous, unless you're very experienced with soma, IMO.

Stay safe, maybe switch to another benzo, Librium is an antique and has a vey long half-life and you neeed very high doses to reach therapeutic effects, I'd switch to another benzo and taper from there.

i am not looking for recreational effects... i was thinking about taking 350mg doses, once or twice a day with smaller amounts of benzos...

tolerance builds quickly tho? damnit...

Yea, but I'd say it drops quick too. I havent had any in about a month and I found ONE in my car on Sunday and took it and amazingly I felt a nice little warmth for about 25 minutes.
