Can K-9 unit dogs pick up small/trace amounts of meth?

I know those animals are pretty impressive, and I even remember reading somewhere on BL that they can pick up trace amounts of weed off of a cell phone faceplate, for example. Now, how about something like meth? Can small amounts of meth be picked up and sensed by those dogs? What if the baggie is hidden deep in a pill case with other vitamin pills and such, or if meth is placed into a special air-tight (but very tiny) container?
These dogs have always fascinated me and a lot of friends would be impressed by such knowledge of drug-related trivia on my part. Many thanks.

No idea, but I hate cops and their little dogs too.
I wouldnt imagine a dog could smell meth hidden as you say since it doesnt give off as nearly a strong organic odor as marijuana. But you might want a second, more expierenced, opinion before trusting mine

Wow Xplore it is funny that you say this because I just went through a border inspection with a dog, and I happened to be carrying a small amount of meth on me. I had about a gram in a vial, hidden in a place I am not going to mention. Well the dog didn't pick up on it a bit. What attracted the k-9 was the fresh smell of marijuana that came from my car. The dog didn't have a clue I had meth on board, and from the looks of me, the BP agents didn't either. So we went on our way with hearts pounding out of our chests.
Considering the dog came within a foot of where I had the meth stash, I would say that they can't smell meth. But then that statement would be ignorant. I conclude that it depends on the dog and what the specific substance the k-9 is trained to detect.
