Can I use steroids to heal an injury?

I was wondering if steroids would be beneficial in healing my rotator cuff to avoid getting surgery. I've dislocated the same shoulder about 10 times and im looking for other options. Has anyone ever had experience with this or similar injuries?

Also I was wondering if a doctor would ever prescribe steroids or growth hormone for injuries. Especially an injury to the rotator cuff because strengthening the muscles around it can keep it from popping out. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

If surgery has been brought up and you have had problems with this in the past then anabolic steroids would be of no use to heal that injury. Surgery is needed to fix it. Anabolic steroids could be used after surgery however to strengthen muscle and increase RBC, which would promote faster healing.

Doctors sometimes prescribe anabolic steroids for severe injuries or conditions in order to preserve muscle and promote tissue growth but typically only cancer patients, burn victims, sick elderly people, and AIDs/HIV positive individuals get prescriptions for substantial amounts of anabolic steroids. HGH is prescribed to to the previous types of people I mentioned or young individuals with thyroid problems and growth issues. It does a great job regenerating joint tissue, tendons, cartilage, increasing bone density, and healing injuries.

You could easily get a prescription for anabolic steroids if you are diagnosed with low testosterone or very old and at the point where your body doesn't produce enough testosterone. HGH can be obtained as well at an ant-aging treatment when you are older if you meet certain criteria. However, the doses you would be taking would be nowhere near any bodybuilding doses. They are minimum effective doses.

The only steroid you would probably be prescribed for this injury is cortisone, which I must mention is not an anabolic steroid. Cortisone suppresses the immune system, thus reducing inflammation and attendant pain and swelling at the site of the injury.

Thanks for the information. The reason I was wondering about it was because the surgery isnt a guaranteed fix but surgery combined with strengthening of the surrounding muscles I should be good.

I would get the surgery done and then once you can without damaging the healing tissue, concentrate on strengthening the muscles with proper diet and exercise. Then when the time comes, use anabolic steroids.

If there is a nagging inury that doesn't seem to go away with the basic rehab methods, you might as well just accept the fact that you're gonna need surgery. No doctor is going to prescribe you Deca for a shoulder problem.

thanks for the input everyone. im due to get surgery in april and after im done healing and rehabing ill plan on possibly using aas to strengthen the muscles. ive heard on here that some steroids are better for joints and some are worse. i was wondering which ones are good for joints and what makes them better than other?

I wouldn't use steroids to strengthen you muscles until your injury is healed for certain and you aren't prone for anymore joint related injuries. Despite some steroids being great for joints in terms of comfortable pain free movement, steroids can put tremendous strain on joints because joint growth cannot keep up with the amount of muscle growth on steroids and they become stressed from the heavy weight you are suddenly able to lift.

I've been doing this. 300mg of test e for 10 weeks and 60mg of anavar for 7. My separated shoulder is 110% stronger than it was previously. Though I worry about doing internal damage to the tendon. I lay off on exercises that hurt and pay more attention to the mental aspect of the lift.

I think it's possible. Maybe test, anavar or one of the many growth hormone options. I've remember reading an article in Muscle Development saying Decca made your joints worse after ceasing use. Suck on those marbles.

They taste like salty milk and coins.

I imagine the Deca made people joints worse after ceasing use because they continued to lift the same heavy weight instead of deloading slightly like one should when off steroids.

ya i wouldnt use anything until im well past the point of it being healed.

auhsoj, its good to know that i can get it back being strong and stable. right now i cant even toss a football or anything for that matter without it feeling weak and unstable. thanks for the input.

It depends on what is causing your shoulder to dislocate. I was "prescribed" injections by my rugby club doctor 10 years ago following several serious dislocations and although it healed quickly (I was able to start lifting withn 7 days) it was never going to be stable enough to endure tackling in a game. For me I gained a lot of movement back and strength around the joint but the loose/sloopy damage internally can only be corrected with surgery and rehab. My treatment was definitely better than simply exercise based rehab I had endured in the past. Sorry I can't give any more details of what I was prescribed but at the time I was paid to follow team orders and I didn't speak enough Italian to really understand the details.

its a torn labrum thats causing the instability. since i originally posted this its popped out 2 more times and ive already met with a surgeon and decided to just go ahead and get it fixed. originally when i injured it i went through therapy and after that continued to strengthen it and it ended up popping out after all of that so i really have no option. surgery will be best.
again, thanks for the input everyone.

This seems to be spot on to me. I was on anavar once when I got severe burns all over my arms opening a pressure cooker under pressure (do not do this lol). The burns were BAD and everyone was shocked to see them. I knew the danger was infection and was watching for this and caring for the burns myself. Turns out that you can not even notice any signs of the burns and I suspect the anavar assisted with this (I was aware it is sometimes used to treat burn victims). I'm sure my dr would not have prescribed anavar to me for my burns but I got a FANTASTIC secondary benefit from the anavar (healing the burns amazingly- not rapidly- but as far as what shows, or rather doesn't show) now.

I've also had tendon issues that I think the anavar might have assisted with although this was much less clear.

Keep in mind that steroids can also sort of promote injury (ie winny will dry you out and make your cartiliges brittle. I have heard stories of very healthy and fit pro baseball players pulling/snapping a tendon from simply SPRINTING. So it works both ways, although the risks for potentially injuring yourself on steroids are greatly increased from not being in great health and not understanding the associated risks. That's why a lot of standard advice is to have a low body fat before considering using them (problems with estrogen increase, greater risk of problems associated with HBP or high cholesterol) and as a general rule someone with a low bf (relatively speaking, not talking ripped or shreaded) is much more likely to have these things in check and more likely to get greater gains assuming they have been working a good weight training program with proper nutrition already.

One thing I have learned and still believe is that you can never have more than enough education around the proper use of steroids. There is always more to learn and info changes over time just like with all other aspects of meds.

I can't wait until test replacement therapy becomes the norm for men in their 40's and up, female hormone tx as they age has been standard for decades and there are tons of benefits for men and this field seems to kind of just starting to emerge over the past cpl of years. I'll tell you this, sometime in my 50's I will be on TRT and HGH as maintenance to get and keep my test levesl at those of healthy 21yo men.

Sorry part of my post was off topic, I'm high.

Thank you. Cooincidentially I just posted in another forum requesting that they ban me due to their juvinile, condesending, and grandios replies after only making like 3 posts there (and I have been on various boards for 15 years or more). One reason I love this place is that it is tolerant, mature, and the mods have the ability to use reason over arbitrary standards without reason.
Thanks again for being part of a team of mods on a great board bro!
