Can I lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously?

To lose fat and bulk up at the same time takes a lot of work, I am not denying this, but it can be done. I've been able to Shed 2% body fat and gain close to 10 lbs weight (muscle) in less than two months. Of course I had to work my ass off with six days weight lifting along with six days cardio but I was still able to bulk up and get defined as hell. The only problem with this is the possibility of over training.

Really all you need is lots of protein and a workout schedule combining both heavy weight training with cardio and you'll be able to gain muscle and lose fat.

This worked for me but I guess everyone's different.

Ha youre right about the STAYING in bulking stage...
I havent done a cycle yet, but from certain someone that is really into it and some of his friends, it goes somewhat like this..
Bulk then cut...Same goes naturally, I mean how do you expect to put on 30pounds in 16 weeks (even if its NOT all muscle mass) without constantly eating? Youre gonna tell me that if you bang cardio after every workout you will put on the same weight? Youre going to burn fat? It sounds like your process of putting on weight that way will take you years....Why do ALL amatures and pro's use the bulk then cut process? I mean its their life, and I am sure noone bulks and cuts at the same time EVEN if youre running a cycle..In fact the first rule to a cycle that you shouldnt bulk and cut at the same time...
Nothing less if you managed to put on weigh and cut some BF, good for you, but I am quite positive that if you try the more conventional way you will get more results.

30 pounds of muscle in 16 weeks !????

Hahah I believe he's referring to a 4 month steroid cycle Mr. Jones. Is possible with the right diet and workout regimen with lots of test.

Ah, steroids. That makes a bit more sense.

I am trying to gain muscle without asteroids and I seem to fail. My weight stays at 145 - 150 pounds, usually around 148. I eat a lot of food but i also do cardio and play physically demanding sports. Am I screwing myself over by trying to do two things at once? (Pack on muscle and burn fat?)

We've had quite the debate on that in this thread. It is VERY hard to do, but feasible if your diet is just about perfect. It's even harder if you're just getting into working out seriously. Would probably be easier to just bulk up as much as possible, then cut down. I know you said you didn't want to lose the six pack, but you'll be able to get it back with some added muscle you're looking for.

Maybe I looked over it, but how tall are you?

I am five foot 8. I do think the way for me to go would be a serious 6 - 12 month program of the important lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench, etc), followed by some intense cardio and fat burning.

This is what I look like right now -- I really want to add some msucle without gaining any fat. I don't really have a six pack to lose, just the slightest hint of one really (Although I am not flexing my abs in that picture).

Man you have a good base to start from. Sounds like you already have a pretty good idea of how you want to achieve your goals as well with the lifts etc. Dietwise, I try to aim for around 4-4.5K cals, 1-1.5 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight, a good amount of 'healthy' fats, and lots of carbs.

I think you said you already cosume 6-7 meals, eating often throughtout the day; which is good. As to not gaining fat with the muscle, try not to consume a meal with both high carbs, and fat; as the body seems to store the fat, and burn the carbs first.(I think that's right...anybody else that knows about this chime in)

Thanks guys. I am going to start an intense training program and try to stick with it rigorously for at least 6 months. I hope I have some good "after" pictures by then :)

Spare the carbs? I am confused. What do you mean by "spare the carbs?"

I apologize if that is a dumb question, but I take "spare the carbs" to mean limit my carb intake. I don't see how I would attain the high calorie intake needed if I limit carbs?
