can i get in trouble for going to differenct doctors?

i went to one my whole life, i had ADD as a kid and got meds. i told him now with my job (pharmacy tech) and school i realize how important the meds are. he made me get diagnosed which was like $300 but did it. i asked for straterra so he didnt think i was out to abuse and he recommended that one. and then tried ritalin. now i have 15mg IR x 2 a day. he made me come in every month to get an RX and i didn't like paying the copay. i went to a new doc whos aid she writes out 3 at a time so i dont wanna come back. but i was my adderall, and i had a RX for xanax, i got 24 .5mg every 2 months or so before they would refill. i explained to them i needed about 24 a month because i take my adderalls at night sometimes depending when i have school/work. basically my new doc said she would right me for them but i wasnt able to get them filled every month. so my 2 docs didnt WANT to do it. is it really that hard to get both? i dont even want xanax 3x a day like some people get. i even said preferably i'd like 1mg tabs to take as needed for sleep. i said i don't use them every night just on nights where i need them.


if i kept trying docs till i got like 15 1mg xanax a month with my adderall could i get in trouble? i dont want to abuse it, i just want it for my night classes/shifts
 
^ Yes, you can get in trouble. It doesn't matter if you are abusing them or not, it will look that way when you get caught.

If/when you get caught, you will be cut off from the medication you need and have 'drug seeker' put on your file. It's not worth it. Have you tried other methods to sleep at night? Alternative medications for your ADHD?
 
yeah i'v tried benedryl, melatonin, etc


neither would give me ambien or xanax for sleep. i wish i could just demand it, because if nothing else works then that's lame. and i dont want it recreationally.
 
Adderaill ritialin I got as a kid. Its always diff one am and one before my 5 hour nite class till 10pm

Wats a doct gonna say if I saw I'm not sleeping
 
^ He might try and reduce your dose. You should try taking the second one earlier in the day, as that is probably contributing a lot to your insomnia.

Apologies for the Ritalin/Adderall confusion, your post was kinda hard to understand.

i cant get my dose reduced because the one im scripted is hardly enough. and if i take it earlier then i can't feel it for when i need to feel it, which is my late class
 
i have some thoughts on this but first some questions: these doctors, are they both psychiatrists? also, are you seeing a psychologist by chance?

I went to over 6 doctors trying to get real help. at one point i had 3 doctors... it wasnt intentional one had agreed to help me for a long period of time and didnt. my advice. there are several psychiatrists out there. the ones that want your money are the ones willing to do whatever. i have one psychiatrist i stopped going to whom thinks we are seeing each other still and he gives me so much shit. i hate him though so wont be going back. just find a pcp they are better than any real psychiatrist i promise. you have to do some searching but if you ever see a psychiatrist not accepting insurance theres a big hint....:\

thats not drug seeking behavior. I didnt read mr pickles reasoning but mine was so long i had to bring in all my bottles and refills to prove this was a fuck up made by my first doctor....not everyones drug seeking. Nothing helps me out more than xanax does. nothing. maybe restoril but not during the day time. xanax and diazepam is all I will accept really. i hate klonopin.


I read your issue pickles. similar to my issue. oh will give you 80mgs of dex but no xanax. so retarded. go doctor searching. its not shopping and no your doing nothing really wrong....your having trouble trying to find someone to help you. its not drug seeking.
 
dont quite understand you since your grammar is bad.

If the doctors are aware you are going to the other one, no you will not be in any trouble. If they are not aware of the other doctor, then yes you can get in trouble.

At school I get ambien for sleep, and at home I get dexedrine and xanax because the school's docs refuse to give it out. Both of my docs are aware of the other, and they are fine with it.

I even get 120 1mg xanax a month lol, and i use maybe 4 or 5 pills a month...legitimately... :)
 
If you tell your doctor that you are seeing another than you won't get into any trouble. If you DON'T tell your doctor that your seeing another than both doctors will stop seeing you and you will be labeled a doctor shopper. Your insurance can usually find out if you are seeing two doctors so be aware.

at firstit was my regular fam doc, then he sent me to get diagnosed by a psychologist then come back to him and he would write the script

i never told my old doc i was seeing a new doc. i just made an appt for the new doc and won't be going back to the old doc

Did you read my post? I didn't say that was what he was doing, I said that was what it will look like.

That's OK then. As long as you aren't seeing both at the same time without informing them.
 
You will get in trouble for doctor shopping if you go to multiple doctors to get multiple overlapping prescriptions of the same type of meds with a high abuse potential.

If you are unhappy with the pharmacological therapy a doctor is willing to give you, you will not get in trouble for leaving one doctor and going to a new one seeking out treatment that is effective for your condition.
 
U are allowed to see as many docs as u want. The way you get in trouble is if you are getting certain Rx's from one doc and not telling the other doc. You know, like when u have to fill out a list of Rx's when you go in the first time.

However, if you are honest about what ur prescribed, then u should have no troubles. People are allowed to go to different docs.
