Opioids Can heavy opiate users ever lower tolerance?

Hey guys. My concern is this; can an ex-heroin user EVER be able to get their tolerance down to a level where say they can use 300mg of Codeine on a recreational level (this used to get him very high)? Is this possible and/or has anyone ever done it?

I need to know so that I know I have a fighting chance to take a long break and be able to use lesser opiates again. Thanks guys.

The idea just seems very unrealistic and far fetched....like say if someone goes 6 months off gear, can they use a lesser opiate like Codeine and get high?

absolutely, taking a significant amount of time away from opiates will lower ones tolerance. this will take some time, but 6 months will surely have a noticeable effect on ones tolerance

Yes, it's possible to get your tolerance down - but the main problem is your tolerance will rise extremely quickly, being an ex user. Also, if you were IV'ing heroin, nothing else will really hit the spot again (except I think hydromorphone? Which I recently learned on BL as having a better rush/high, but I don't know personally).

It's also never a good idea for someone who has been physically dependent to start using again after a period of abstinence. Some may be able to do it, but it's not common. Once you've had a habit and get clean, you really should stay away if you don't want to get back the same place you were at.

I've seen it first hand, it's not pretty and it happens so fucking quickly.

Yes, tolerance will drop to almost zero again but if you use just 2 days in a row it will skyrocket back up to your usual tolerance again.

if you've been a long time chronic opiate abuser and used them at high doses it can take a couple years to get your tolerance down to a level where codeine would feel good
