For about the last month and a half I hadn't be feeling well and when my ear got involved this week I finally went to the doc today and found out I've had asthmatic bronchitis the whole time and now developed an ear infection (side note: there's possibility of lead being in the house, still don't know need to go for the blood work but I've been livi g there for 11 years and you know, try not to eat the paint chips TOO often lol...). But I've gained liked a pretty good amount of weight in only six weeks, like maybe 12 lbs?

Anyway, the question is, could part of the weight gain be because I didn't realize I was so sick and didn't get treatment and was my immune systems way of trying to get energy and strength to help itself fit it off? Also, I mean I don't have all too healthy food in my house cause my mother buys the food and believe it or not she had actually gotten angry when I asked her to get healthy things lol. But since my rheumatologist has told me I need to lose weight, she has no choice now!

Any insight? I couldn't find anything on the web really.

No, unless it somehow slowed down your thyroid or something it couldn't have caused the weight gain.
I mean when we're sick, we usually don't have the energy to work out or be as physically active as usual so
Maybe that's it?

^ i agree... when i came off suboxone maintenance i gained around 25 lbs... pretty much due to my total lack of energy so all i did was sit on the couch watch tv and compulsively eat..

Yeah pretty much. I basically just ate and slept any time i could for the most part. I cant remember the last time ive been this exhausted like this! I hate it. -_- and its at such inappropriate times. My whole routine is assbackwards sideways and upside down.
I just got my meds tonight, i hope they work quickly. I hope that once i start feeling better maybe i can start losing some weight :/

Yeah. Even if you are sick its good to get some exercise (not too strenous though). I was feeling crappy the last few months and gained a lot of weight too :(.

Also, if your mom is buying unhealthy foods, you gotta go buy your own!

Think that bronchitis got to me too, screw the antibiotics they make you feel better faster, but also make you MORE likely to get the bronchitis again faster(because the body didn't learn how to fight it on it's own)......go for mega doses of vitamin C and take B-complex.

As far as weight gain, it's not always how much you eat,but what you eat....I think you realize that when mentioning the food your mother buys(God bless her soul as she means well) , as yucatanboy says just buy your own. Eat it w/o her knowing. I avoid wheat as today it is grown from a semi-dwarf hybrid that does nothing but make the food producers wealthy and most people who eat it gain fat. Read the wheat-belly diet book for more info.

I personally find when I'm not well I gain weight, it's because I'm tired, I exercise less and usually eat more. Probably my metabolism is out of whack too. I had the flu last winter and it took me six weeks to feel energetic again, I gained 15lb/7kg during that time.

Sudden increase/decrease in weight can be a sign or symptom of certain illnesses but not always. I would more think it is probably that the bronchitis makes you feel incredibly bad and you just haven't been up going and doing as much as normal. Once you feel better you will more than likely drop back down to your normal weight! Hope you feel better soon!!!

I was constantly catching something because my cortisol (stress hormone) levels were up for ages due to life/job stress, which stressed my thyroid, which made me gain weight. You can ask for a complete blood panel, with thyroid and cortisol levels included to give you a better idea if it's medical or nutrition/lifestyle based.

If your mom isn't listening to you have her go to a rheum appt with you, sometimes they need to hear it from the horse's mouth, or schedule a nutritionist appointment and bring her along. Parents just don't understand.
