Can anyone London-based tell me what Limehouse is like?

I'm on the verge of signing a contract to live 5mn away from Limehouse tube stop this year but don't really have any idea as to the safety of the neighborhood and would rather know before confirming anything. I know Shadwell/Whitechapel are nearby and those definitely aren't the best areas in London, but is Limehouse any better by any chance? It's alright it's not the most pleasant/prettiest area in the city, I'd just like to know where it stands when it comes to walking alone at night etc.
Thanks!

Most of the guys look something like this:

The FT Crime map says it's all violent crime in that area

However I don't think that paints a very balanced picture as my area looks like it's full of violent crime from that map... less than Limehouse but anyway, my area's fine.

I've been there a handful of times, it's OK, to my mind it is rough but I'd say less so than Whitechapel. There are a couple of really excellent little music / arts places tucked away, some interesting pubs (including one you can smoke in) and a surprisingly big gay scene. It's also bewilderingly close to the centre of town. I've only really been there at night with a load of people, it did strike me as a bit dark and empty as it got late which might not appeal to you. The area round the station is a bit forbidding with the big arches and tunnels. It strikes me as an unusual place with probably quite an interesting community but I don't know if it's that accessible to outsiders. It's not like there's a big well-kept high street to act as the heart of the community.

Your best bet is probably finding a local forum or other place online where people contribute their experiences.

I just moved from Mudchute, a few stops up onthe DLR.

The area is actually quite nice. Your really close to the City also. The DLR has good transport links.

You can also ride the DLR like an x-wing if you get on at the front carriage.

Yeah that is true. The DLR is great, very exciting and makes excellent noises, although it stops a bit earlier than I'd like.

Actually, that's a point, it'd be worth checking what late night transport is like for the specific road you want to live in.

"Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has laughed off the suggestion that he married his male chef in a civil ceremony, and explained why he'll never get married."

"Sorry guys, but his macho "Player" act was all created to cover up his
homosexuality. I've even heard stories about how at recent concerts he is
telling male audience members what beautiful hair they have. The guy is
flamingly gay and I didn't want to believe it either because I was always a
Roth fan when I was a kid but I've accepted it now....he's GAY."

judge for yourself

Groupiedirt David Lee Roth entry said:
David Lee Roth is a major disappointment sexually and a “psycho,” say female groupies who’ve been with him. Maybe that’s because David is rumored to be now be more interested in California boys than California girls. .

Nonsense.

24 hour off license too.

There are quite a few in the town I used to live in but then again it's more famous for the b's & whites than anything else, good old Brierley Hill & the skyrise council flats I used to live in.
Best part is the most used 24/7 off licence is called "Beer & Fags" & i'm not joking, it has a sign in the window flashing in neon flashing the message "Open 24 hours a day off licence"
It was quite a regular sight to see people walking back to their flat on giro day with a several bottles of White Star cider or the cheap £8 a litre bottles of Vodka at 6am.

He's spookily like Jimmy Savile in the last one.

I know. Chilling, ain't it?

The man became a paramedic in the early 2000s, when the record advances and Vegas gigs dried up. Would you really want him pawing away at your prone corpse, even if he might save your life in the process?

Okay, one last Dave shot before I let this thread go back on topic:

I wouldnt walk anywhere alone in London at night as a young woman.

Mate's dad had a flat/wharf in Langdon Park just down from Limehouse. Flat is worth about the size of the UK national debt and is amazing. Area is naff. We used to call it Poplar.
