Can Adderal/Ritalin be used with SSRI's

I’m a university student looking for an extra edge in studying

I have tried this combination bc my dr no longer wanted to prescribe me the most appropriate counterpart to Addy, Xanax. The SSRI's had bad sexual side effects, couldn't sleep, weird mood swings, and amplified insomnia; this is while I was a student fyi.

Amphetamines don't do much for my creativity, ditto high dose SSRIs, v low dose can ease anxiety thus opening creative channels more easily

They have almost no interaction with each other - therefore - Yes they can. It's also a very common combination anyways.

SSRI's (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) block the SERT (Serotonin Reuptake Transporter). This blocks Serotonin from being able to go back into the cell vesicles, thus allowing more serotonin to be able to accumulate in the synapses. Adderall, and Ritalin - while they can have very minor effects on Serotonin, it's very slight and shouldn't cause problems when taken with an SSRI.

However, that is not the same for all amphetamines and NDRI's. For instance - the dextro isomer of Methamphetamine (CNS active meth) causes a cascading release of Serotonin. This rush of Serotonin is what causes meth users to have their body twitch so violently. Same goes for MDMA (Ecstasy). However, it's effects on Serotonin are a little different than Meth. MDMA actually has binding affinity for some 5-HT sites. And therefore has larger Serotonergic activity than Methamphetamine.

Yeah adderall and ritalin shouldn't be severely affected negatively by the usage of adderall or ritalin. I don't know about ritalin but i know that adderall plays a bigger role on dopamine than it does on seratonin, so they could be safely used. However their are other types of anti-depressants that are NOT SSRI's that could have a different affect on how they affect your adderall/ritalin, but ssri's should be fine.

BUT SSRI'S MAKE IT HARD TO HAVE SEX OR ORGASM UGHHHHHH I HATE THAT ABOUT THEM

Yes, the SSRI and the stimulant is not contraindicated. However, the seratonin reuptake will not work well. It will counteract the anti-depressant...as the stimulants create irritability

@Laska, I'm not sure what you're talking about. It's been pretty well established that low-moderate doses of Ritalin in combination with an SSRI is fairly effective and safe in treating depression. Bupropion (which is also a DRI and weak NRI) is also well known as an effective antidepressant. I can tell you that first hand.
