Can a Freebase be Crystalline?

when i'm doing recrystallization in labs I fantisize about yielding the illusive "Prism structrures" I think even when it says they're supposed to look like prisms I get a shitty product that looks kinda needlish...

i have never seen a substance crystallize as actual prism but some needlelike structure have prism-like qualities

Sorry if this is dumb question but on the subject of crystallization I have been wondering.

When a substance crystallizes and it always grows in to the same structure where is the blueprint for this structure? The blueprint of the compound ?

I hope this is not to far off subject, I have just been wondering about this lately.

It is, if it crystallized at the same condition (which mean temperature, pressure, etc). Unless it crystalize in the space of another formed crystal (keyword: pseudomorphism).

Those "needles" are actually prism, gram a magnify or a microscope and look into them. The crystallization time matters, if the crystal forms slowly, it will be large enough to see its real shape.
