Old Farts eh? Well *I* joined in 2000, so that makes me super old school and cool. Yeah! My first rave was new years eve 1996/97 and that night changed my life for ever. So now i'm nearly 33, 16 years later - holy shit!, and still on Bluelight, still dabbling with my prefered substance, and every day thinking about the good old days of the Melbourne rave scene in the mid-late nineties. First time i did ecstasy i fell in love with it - sitting smoking a cigarette on my own at the back of the Altona Sports and Leisure Centre, basking in the glory of that feeling, about 6am, with Midro playing uplifting trance, said to myself, "this is awesome, i'm going to do this every weekend" and I DID.

Bluelight (and pillreports) are the best thing to happen to recreational drugs in human history. When I started on the scene there was SO much bullshit out there, my favourites are:

If a pill puts you on your ass it means it has heroin in it (actually MDxx), if it speeds you up and makes you talk lots and stay up for days its ecstasy (actually meth)
Magic Mushrooms have strychnine in them, which is what makes you trip.
Pills have crushed up glass in them, which cuts your stomach and makes the chemicals kick in more quickly
Somehow the 'crowns' or whatever that were around a year ago are going to be same as the new 'crowns' ... ie that batches are always the same even when years apart
etc etc.. who remembers those goldies?

I was one of the first people in Melbourne (as far as i'm aware) to get a pill tester, which i learnt about and hooked up via bluelight. Now they are standard kit. Now people know fairly accurately what is in pills. In my glory days misinformation dominated - Bluelight changed that.

I can't see myself stopping this business any time soon. I should, for my physical and mental health and for my bank balance, for my career, for my parents who i've put through hell over the years... but its just too good!! Who knew it would go this far! And Bluelight has been there the whole time.

So anyway props to all the other old schoolers out there, especially the Melbourne ones. Im up for a Melbourne bluelighters meeting if any others are. Would LOVE to have a reminiscing night. I'll bring my box of flyers. It nearly brings me to tears to look at all the flyers to the sick parties i went to. And any excuse to dust of the phat pants.

Bluelight is awesome and has probably saved lives. Harm reduction is the only approach to drug use, and that is Bluelight! Information is power.

Altona was just fucking epic. Every party there went off. I was at the first ever Altona party - the first War of the Worlds party, with Thomas Heckman - when he dropped Amphetamine the whole main shed just went crazy, the energy was just ridiculous, one of those classic rave moments that defined the times. Obviously Kryal is the other standout, a super venue and super parties. I think the first Kryal was new years eve 98/99... Before either of those though were all the parties in docklands and in Footscray (Global Village - now we are getting old school - ill be impressed if anyone on BL remembers and went to Global).. not to mention shed 4 and shed 14, amongst others. For a couple of years there was a warehouse party nearly every weekend, and if you paid $40 it was considered expensive. Those were the good old days. Before the Nightclub Owners Association made holding raves almost impossible to do legally in about 2002 and warehouse parties died. Oh god i could go on and on..... perhaps i should write a book.
