California can't legalize marijuana

i am persuaded that RAND's economic argument is incorrect, because it presumes that pot is currently illegal. I was shocked by the fact that MMJ dispensaries continue to sell for something close to the average street price. I wonder if the truth is that MJ has *already* found its quasi-legal price, and that until/unless there is mass legalization, the price won't change much no matter what various localities do.

ie, i believe the average price for MMJ in CA is roughly the same as it is in a coffeeshop in Amsterdam; this is not a direct comment on any particular vendor or even group of vendors, just a rough observation of trends from things I've read online.

The Oakland thing is interesting, though. It's aggressive enough that it makes you wonder whether price wars couldn't break out, which might produce what RAND is talking about, and I actually think that sequence of events couldn't play out altogether nicely when its consequences fall out regionally, nationally, and internationally.

These are interesting times!

Growing a plant is easy. Growing super potent, stinky AAA nug is not so easy. That is one underpinning of the high price of weed.

Despite the federal ban, statewide legalization will be huge. It will be a push in the right direction.

P.S. duhhhhhhh, people already siphon mmj out of state. This will just open the floodgates even wider! Which is GREAT for California's economy.

There are a lot of factors to keep in mind. For example, laws do not matter. What matters is how the judges interpret those laws. In other words, it doesn't matter what is or is not illegal. What matters is the consequences for your actions.

Also, if the civil war has taught our country anything is that if a state backs something (like fully backs it with officers and guns) the fed will most likely not go around fucking with the state. Our country has a history of local police fighting federal police before. I doubt CA would ever push something that much. CA isn't 'redneck' enough, but lobbyists would def push for a change in laws on the federal level if it ever became legal on a state level.
