Calif. mother stabs toddler son up to 20 times

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- A California toddler who was stabbed up to 20 times by his mother and was found face down on a stairway landing by paramedics was in critical condition on Wednesday, authorities said.

Fresno police officers were called to the woman's apartment at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday after a neighbor said he saw the 3-year-old boy outside the apartment with stab wounds, police said.

The woman screamed at paramedics who arrived at the scene, telling them to stay away from the boy. She had to be held back by officers, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

The boy had stab wounds all over his body, according to Dyer. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

Police said the woman acknowledged stabbing her son, but would not say why. A witness also reported seeing the woman push the boy down a staircase.

Police did not release the names of the mother or child. But the woman's sister, Christina Esqueda, identified them as Vanessa Rincon, 30, and Noah Rincon.

Esqueda said she had cut off contact with Rincon after suspecting her sister was on drugs.

Dyer said he did not know if the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the incident.

A 2-month-old child found at the apartment was unharmed and taken into custody by Fresno County Child Protective Services.

When shit like this happens, what do you think about the suspect? Do you think she is evil, or you think she is nuts and not truly accountable for her actions? What was her motive?

Like when the mother thought god wanted her to free the souls of her sons, do you think that is murder in the first degree for personal gain or do you think this person is even in touch with reality enough to understand the implication of her actions?

Anyway, people like that are a liability to everyone around them. We could put her in a straight jacket to keep her from harming people, or keep her in maximum security....I almost think I would rather be killed if I couldn't move or scratch an itch.


How is putting somebody in the hole, or keeping somebody chained up in some contorted position where they cant lay down flat comfortably even to sleep not cruel and unusual? The legal system can get pretty brutal. Its pretty far from humane.

I could careless about the suspect when shit like this happens the only thing I think about is that poor toddler who is in critical condition with those scars that will never heal. The suspect is evil and nuts... what do you suggest we do about the suspect then? I agree with you. I would probably go farther and just kill her on the spot. I doubt a jury would convict me considering the circumstances.

However, outside the heat of the moment, if I was a judge, I would want to know if this person was of sound mind....and by sound mind, I dont mean just being capable of doing something none of us would do, but was she aware of her actions? Did she think the baby was a 4 headed monster trying to eat her? Was she just a bitch would was strung out and got pissed off when the baby disturbed her sleep and decided to kill it instead of take care of it....These things would help me decide whether the person should be removed from society by inflicting the most painful death imaginable vs being removed from society by locking her up with a straight jacket and feeding her Thorazine while she drools in front of a TV until she dies of old age.

By all accounts, he was stabbed between 12 and 20 times.

She pleaded not guilty yesterday to attempted murder and not guilty to corporal injury of a child.

She's lucky she wasn't charged for drugs, or she might be facing some real time. As it is, she might end up getting sentenced to a few bottles of Haldol and a couple of years of hard checkers.

That is so fucked up and sadly true. Geez. Some college kid selling acid at a rave will likely spend 10x as long in prison compared to her.

You should apply your moral judgments of others to yourself. Violence won't solve the problem, and as someone posted above, this woman isn't simply a bad person, she's most likely mentally ill and she should get treatment. That or she was on (or coming down from, in my experience that's when the bad craziness starts to really kick in) pcp or something.

The child in this situation is who concerns me. He will be literally and emotionally scarred for life. "My Mommy stabbed the shit out of me and threw me down a staircase" Hopefully someone will come into his life and raise him lovingly and properly after this. Well, when one murders another in cold blood (she didn't, but tried to) they LOSE that right to life IMO.
